Private Chat - Ingame (Whispering)
« on: June 24, 2008, 11:38:35 am »
Yep, I'm very sure you know how this works. Basically, you can send a chat message, but it can only be seen by a certain player of your choice, using a command. Like this:

/pm <id> <message>

This system only works amongst the server itself. It would not work globally. In other words, if you and a friend are on two different servers, you cannot use this. If you are on the same server and he's id 3, you just type something like: /pm 3 hi jack

However, if you want this system to work globally, there's one way (which can also work for friends-list etc):

Soldat-players have an option to sign up for this extra account. When they enter Soldat, they can choose to login to this account or jump straight into choosing their profile and play. The game would somehow remember your username as the way to identify you, so if you send a PM, it's just /pm <username> <message> and you can send it to that person anywhere in Soldat.

^ This same system could be used for Clan-chatting.

Ya, I know, if you have x-fire or some other voice program then this is pretty useless.

What do you guys think?

Admin function eh?

Well, could always use a different command and make it also usable for non-admins.

Well, for example, email addresses.

I've came across funny people asking me for my email address straight away. I don't even know these people and they insist for my email address even when I asked them "what the hell do you want with it" and they say "just tell me"... dunno what's wrong with them. I prefer to give out such info more personally, only to those I can trust a bit more.

Also hate it when I tell someone something important or whatever and some nosey idiot decides to interfere.

I don't see a need for this to be a part of Soldat, since it could be done (and has, if I remember it right) in 5 mins with scripting.

Sexuality...heh, just kidding. If it's email addresses, just say it and if you get email from you don't know delete it. Are you that lazy? :/

I always check and delete my unimportant messages, but what the heck do they want my email address for? Hack into it?

Hmm ya, I've entered a server with a PM script. But I believe it would have been more convenient if it were found in all servers, whether with or without scripting. And no doubt there's also the voice programs like x-fire, but some people do not have mics and x-fire for whatever reason.

To have /pm available to the public F12
Also, maybe who it was sent by included in the message
