I hate the fact that HTF is practically dead. It's one of my favourite modes of play.
I love the feeling of knowing that your the most important player in the game ( if your holding the flag ).

The most important person would be the one who saves the flag the most, but yeah. Sucks that it died so miserably.

Polish HTF League had just started...
http://www.htfl.pl/
(Every euro clan can play... if it has a polish leader)

I might try to make a NA league..when I get more time anyways.

Someone should make a HTF gather, like SNA.gather, so people would actually be motivated to play.  I'd be more then willing to idle in the room, and I'd play every chance I could until HTF was alive again. Any volunteers to make it?

In the event that I have the time, I may put up a few HTF servers... I don't know when, but I'll try to get to it

The only gathers that have been consistently successful has been CTF gathers. The other modes seem to die out. I have played HTF gathers and it wasn't that fun. HTF requires a massive amount of teamwork and probably a voice system because calling the flag holder position is so precise. Taunts are too vague and useless to an extent. Also, the fact that CTF has always been the favored gamemode makes a player question, "why should I play HTF when I can just play CTF?" It's a shame, but it's never going to get the popularity that CTF and even DM is going to get.

I dont like it because the maps are too small. I prefer it on DM maps.

It wasn't portrayed right and when first added as a gamemode, majority of the maps were horrible, notably htf_Mare.  Now it's starting to have proper maps like htf_Baire and htf_Zajacz and Leagues and Tournaments every now and then.  It's slowly starting to become popular, but it'll never be as CTF or DM.

It's one of those gamemodes that has unused potential like Rambo or Pointmatch.

Doesn't look like it's becoming popular to me.. each HTF server has 0 people.  :-\

Is the HTF gather still up? If so, could you give me the channel name?

Also, the fact that CTF has always been the favored gamemode makes a player question, "why should I play HTF when I can just play CTF?" It's a shame, but it's never going to get the popularity that CTF and even DM is going to get.

Every HTF server almost always has 0 people in it. Who wants to play a game mode that nobody is in? If we could get more people playing, then it would catch on. It's a fun game mode that requires a lot of team work. You have to rely more on your teammates to keep you alive, since the entire opponent team would be coming after you.

In the event that I have the time, I may put up a few HTF servers... I don't know when, but I'll try to get to it

I'd very much appreciate it.

I've played one game of HTF before, when GameArena had a server with it, on that square map with corridors around the outside, then in the middle theres a box shaped area. It was pretty fun, but like people have said, it's only fun if other people are playing as well, and so it goes on like a loop.

If I had to list the popularity of each mode, it would go:

Capture the Flag
Infiltration
Deathmatch
Rambo
Team Death Match
Hold The Flag
Pointmatch

Also, a couple of weeks back I was bored and was playing around in the 'Start game' menu, and I selected Hold the flag, and you see all these maps you've never heard of before, and it's just kind of like 'WTF?'

Well if you rate popularity by number of servers, HTF would rank higher than Rambo. There are 9 servers.

I am a huge fan of HTF but sadly its cursed with no servers. :(
"It's cursed with no good maps."

I think if I ever get back into mapping, restoring HTF would be my ultimate task in this community. It's the greatest of all the game modes, but no one realizes it... for good reason.
