e-mail me (ryan@u13.net) and I will convert the video for you using freely available tools on Linux.

As for Windows tools:
http://mewig.sourceforge.net/ (MeWig, a windows frontend for the very powerful linux mencoder backend)

http://forums.dvbowners.com/index.php?showtopic=3280&st=0 similar, frontend for the mencoder backend.

codec problem, you'd need to dl the correct codec to get it playing correctly (i usually dont have a problem with that except for needing divx, takes just a minute to get)

get VLC to play it back properly.  If you go to get codecs, be very careful not to get one with viruses and other crap

Your werid, I've never had a problem with Windows Movie Maker, but I use Cyberlink Powerdirector, but Sony Vegas would work, there are ways to get it free...

I use Total Video Converter to convert any files if need be.

I don't know what would cause it to have no sound, except you need a codec, never experienced that, ever.

Download VirtualDub + any encoder you want to use.

VD should already have access to the Fraps codec, if you have Fraps installed. I recommend downloading the free divx-codec and use that to compress the fraps-files.
It's a bit complicated open-source program. You can set the compression options in the menu somewhere and after that save the file as an .avi (won't be the same kind of avi as the original of course).

http://www.divx.com/

ps. VirtualDub is also able to record your screen and save it directly as divx. This work(ed) for me in-game! No BE problems at all.
