m79:what the real problem of it is...
« on: July 24, 2006, 03:47:02 am »
i have played for a long time, and i think i know 2 things about m79 that increases its usage so much. here is a large reason why sometimes random m79's can hit you..with regular weapons such as mp5, ak, deagles...the weapons shoot straight. so if you and another are in a blank area with no cover and full jet and falling, you both shoot a little under the other, or straight at them depeding on how fast the guns bullets are. so you have one way to hit them and killing them comes down to aiming. with m79, you can shoot slightly below them or slightly above dpending on how close you are to your opponant. but you can also aim upwards and the person will fall into it or vice versa.

so say your aiming with a regular gun is 50% hit. you shoot 20 bullets at them. 10 of them hit, because when you miss you....miss, there is no/very small chance of hitting the person if you aim to high or low.

with m79, just for math reasons lets say you also shot 20 times. and you also hit them 10 times because of your 50% accuracy. there are 2 possible routes to hit the opponent, so you would hit them an additional 50% of the time for the misses. so all in all you would hit them 15 times.. for math people here is your zen

AutoM79
h=20/(100/50)r=20
a=r/(100/50)
h=a(r=r-(100/50)*10)
b=r(100/50)
h=h+b
h=10 hits
h=15 hits

so if my algebra is alright(its 3 am here so it might just be shit) that will mathematically show you why m79 is better. m79 takes advantage of 1 dimesional situations by adding a 2 dimensional arc, which in a 3d game would be equivalent for all bullets shooting through Z, while this would simply avoid it all together. might be hard to understand but whatever. anyways all the best and please comment.

Good call. :) Really, the M79's problems isn't some falling/hit ratio and poor mathematics. The dying outside the fired shell and lack of guaranteed selfkill I believe are related to lag more than anything. There aren't "2 things about m79 that increases its usage so much," it's just the one important thing: an instant kill.

Haha... wait.. I've almost stopped laughing... wait.... haha..... ok...:D....ok... er...

Yeah... what Mr. Domino said. Even if what you said made any sense (I didn't understand it all, but I'm not sure whether that's my fault or yours), it would only be a ridiculous way of saying:

It's just the one important thing: an instant kill.

The only time I'm annoyed is when it's point blank, when both weapons have 100% accuracy (I hope  ::)). Guess who wins that one. And still lives. And gets boosted sometimes.

Why do you keep appealing to math people with meaningless math?

The m79 does nothing that any other gun in this game can't do.  What is this "2 possible routes"
 stuff?  Adding a 2 dimensional arc?

You should have just gone to sleep, because this doesn't make any sense at all, and certainly isn't logical or mathematically sound.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

That was my interpretation of the "2 possible routes" thing. Where you can either aim at your opponent, or shoot in the air to make a nice big arc and plop it on his head.

I dunno. The rest of it was gibberish to me.

Sorry for the crappy pic.  :-[
