Another Question about Gather

So I was just wondering what's up with all the gather servers. What are they all about any way? Thanks  :D

QuakeNet is up and well. What exactly is it telling you when you try to connect?

If you've already tried connecting to irc.quakenet.org, try variations, such as se.quakenet.org or de.quakenet.org. Or you can try connecting to one of the servers directly.

irc.quakenet.org port 6667  is what I use.
 
Also the server does not allow you to use proxies for connecting, read the URL it gives you.
