Polyworks + Vista problems
« on: July 13, 2008, 10:18:38 pm »
I want to make a map, and both of my computers are vista, I need to use Polyworks.
I have the newest version, I installed it but I got an error when trying to run it:

So I looked around ad found the file I needed, and then done that regsvr32 dx8vb.dll thing, got this error now:

So any help?

It is compatible with Vista, I make maps on my Vista computer all the time.  It's just that getting PW to work on Vista is a pain in the arse, but once you do get it to work, there'll be no more problems in the future.

Try downloading the file from another website, re-registering it, and reinstalling PW.  I honestly have never seen this before.

Maybe it has to do with which edition of Vista he is using and whether it is the 32bit or 64bit version. Probably the latter.
There are other worlds than these

It's funny you linked there, I already tried that.

EDIT:

Got it working now, I done what E_A said, and got a new dx8vb.dll.
Also Laser guy, I reccomend you put some extra stuff in your guide, in the part about registering say something like:

'It will have worked if a window pops up saying regestering successful, if this doesn't happen, download the file from another location and try again.'

If you had said that I would've been sweet. When I regsvr32'ed my dll, nothing happened, so I assumed it worked, obviously the file was corrupt.

Oh god...

@Whitehouse:

I got it from Here and I can't remember where I got the dx8vb file from, just get like 3 or four and keep trying.

@HIDDEN:
DON'T put the dx8vb file into the polyworks folder, put it into the C:\Windows\System32 folder.

Then do start>run>'cmd.exe'>enter>'regsvr32 dx8vb.dll' (' ' indicate typing something in)
If a window comes up saying it worked or was successful, it should work (unless it is a different problem from what I had) if nothing happens, delete the file you put into C:\Windows\System32 and put the new one in.

NOTE: If the file you download is a .zip you must extract it somewhere (like desktop) and put the dx8vb.dll file into the C:\Windows\System32 folder. DO NOT put a .zip, or .rar file in (it won't work).

Feel free to ask more questions, but if you have a different error to the ones shown in my pictures, I can't help you, just make a new thread like I did.

Ok. So, I know that this error was already solved, but the fix (going into cmd.exe, etc.) didn't work for me. This one:

When I Click Ok, this one appears.

When those go away, and I stry to maximize the window, this error appears, and then Polyworks closes. Help?

Erm. UPDATE: I tried re-doing the regsvr32 on both of the files (dx8vb, too)... and it magically works. Sorry for the image spam guys. I was desperate!

Well, I searched in the whole board, but what I need I'll only get here. So, I have the same problem like you, Konf1ikt, but I cannot solve it. There are the same error messages like in your screens. Does anybody know what to do? Yes, I've done all these regsvr32 things. :P
