MAX pings for competitive games
« on: July 17, 2008, 06:33:33 pm »
Lately I've been seeing a lot of people with very high pings (300-500) playing in gathers and cw's. I really dislike playing with laggy stuffs.

Lets just take gathers for instance (because that's where I've been noticing it the most), what is the highest ping that you can have before you can't play?

As an aussie that play's in gathers a lot of people complain about our ping..get over it, there's nothing we can do about it. You can't just get rid of us too, some of us want to expand our skill and challange new people as in australia we are always warring the same clans or playing with the same people. We did have an ausgather but that failed it was too repetitive not enough people and was kinda lame.

Actually, a lot of games implement a max ping setting that can get rid of aussies (and anyone else with high pings) rather easily.

I usually set it to 200 as I can't stand playing with anything above.

I get that you want to get better, but the high ping just makes it more difficult for everyone else. I'm used to playing with people who have <150 ping, so when someone comes up to me with 300, I have a problem with it.

Well, if an Aussie lives on the East coast and has a good connection, he'll usually only get a ping of about 150ms. They do eat, but they're still killable.

Getting used and learning how to play with lag is a skill too and it's certainly required against "intercontinental" clans.

Up to 250-300, it's playable imo.

I can play anything lower than 300. Any higher than 300 or there is spiking, I won't be able to play properly, whether it is my own connection to the server or others' connection to the server.

If they wanna play I'll normally play em. I just might get a bit pissed off in game which is rare for me. The kind of lag I refuse to play against is upload ping spikes and the like where it is really unplayable.

The majority of the soldat clan scene is perfectly fine with playing with up to around 200 ping.  The only thing that ping really determines is how drastic the invisible bullets are from high ping players.  Sure you can say they lag through nades and bullets more, but I've seen a lot of 50 ping players lag more then 200 ping players.

I could not see my shots when I had 150 ping, that's a big reason why it is too high

I usually set my limit at 400, I'm very tolerant of other people's ping and I don't really care.
