Floppy Dicks
« on: July 23, 2008, 01:43:57 pm »
Anyone still use them? I just found a stash of floppies in my brother's closet. I got bored so I stuck an old floppy drive (all of the old ones I have still work, they're built like tanks) in one of my servers so I can get to it over the network. I didn't feel like putting it in one of my normal pc's since all of their 3.5 bays are taken up by hard drives.

I found loads of 90's porn and old cool .midi sounds.

What about you guys? Anything old and interesting lying around on floppy disks?

There's a floppy disk in my room.. I'm not sure how it got here, but it's the first one I've seen since elementary school.

Ugh, what, 400x500 size to fit on flops?

I still use flops to transfer some bitmaps over to my ancient Toshiba laptop. Found some docs I typed up when I was still learning the computer [that was when I was 8 or so]. If you think my English is horrid now... ugh.

I found Dungeons & Dragons floppies and some 5.25-inch floppies with other games on them.

Man I can still remember using the floppies which were even bigger than 5.25". I'm so old. >.< Anyway, I still have Whacky Wheels on floppies somewhere. I also use floppies with my SNES dev unit: Super Ufo Hyper Drive 6... I can't remember the exact name... I whip it out every now and then to play either some homebrew snes games or fan translated stuff.

I remember in high school we had computer class. >.< Don't even get me started as to how gay that was. Our computer teacher made us buy a single 1.44MB 3.5" Floppy for $1.00, that we had to use for everything all year. He barely knew anything about a computer himself. Yep. Fun times on those old 486's. Luckily thanks to floppies, we snuck in Doom and Wolfenstein. Yup. Good times.

Used to play loads of DOS games when I had my old old IBM.

Strider, Alley Cat, Bounce, J-Bird, Digger, Space Invaders, the awesome one I forgot the name of where you're a plane and have to shoot motorcycles and cars and then dock with a blimp to refuel....

Still got them all on 7.5" floppy dicks.

That is one of the worst moments I've ever experienced, reformatting a PC to install Windows 2000+ and getting to that installation stage before realizing you do not have the RAID drivers handy and it's the only PC you have access to within 15 miles. :/
