Oh my god! New Graphics card doesn't want to work!

So this morning my new 9600GT arrived in the mail. After I fiddled around with it I managed to install the new card. Then I turned on my PC it was running slow like shinyfoo. I couldn't run any games or it would give me a FPS of 3 or less and the whole screen is in 256 colors instead of the usual 32bit. Any help?

I'm no expert but did you properly install the drivers?

Yes. It came with a CD and I installed it and it didn't work.

Download the latest drivers from the manufacturer's website and install then reboot?

If that doesn't work, join a good pc forum and ask questions like : http://www.pcguide.com/vb/index.php, they helped me alot .

NVIDIA forums are the experts.  You will probably get much more experienced users to answer your questions:  http://forums.nvidia.com/

But try others too if they cant help you for some reason.   

But just downloading new drivers and restarting should fix it.

My computer tells me when I don't plug that in. What kind of shitty motherboard you got?

You should definitely invest in a new motherboard.

I was thinking the same thing. I really want a PCI-Express 2.0 slot to improve performance, but I figured my current motherboard would last another 1 to 2 years before retiring.
