omgah olympics thread
« on: August 08, 2008, 06:26:06 am »
yah im pulling an all-niter on the west coast of USA to watch the opening ceremony.

also from what I understand - the Olympic events WILL be broadcasted live by NBC on the internet:

http://www.nbcolympics.com/

you have to install some silverlight plugin from microsoft. I'm actually impressed with the quality and speed right now.

hooray
The computer is a moron.

Olympics aren't that interesting, i suppose it's once every 4 years, but it's only china.

The american athletes are pussies, they left the plane with gas masks on, my country just man'd up and walked out.

Lol, internets.

Without China our standard of living would go down the drain. Basically everything is manufactured in China and around asia.

no without china we would have more jobs in the united states and money wouldn't flow out of the country like a spilling oil tanker.

no without china the jobs would go to south east asia and mexico and if those didn't exist either you'd be paying more for everything.

USA! USA! USA!

I'm gonna boycot it....well not really i never watch that shinyfoo anyway.
Yeah, that makes sense...boycott the event that's all about putting aside your differences and just competing in good spirits, simply because you don't like the country where it's held.

Well, the economy would be significantly worse, since we'd have to pay our workers more than seven cents an hour.  Layoffs would ensue and prices would rise, meaning that less products would be sold and less profit made, causing more layoffs.  Not a good thing.

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.

Those countries combined are nothing compared china's manufacturing capabilities, American industry would have to fill the gap, it wouldn't have been worth it to close down all the plants that we did because it would cost more in the long run.

Your logic is flawed, we would have way less unemployed meaning more buying power, and since the money stays in the US the US would benefit as a whole. And manufacturing here is a hell of a lot more quality controlled than in china, we won't be seeing lead in our toys and antifreeze in our toothpaste.

I hope the boycott is significant, it is pretty hypocritical for a country hosting the olympics, a symbol of peace, to evict thousands of people so the rest of the world's top athletes can come compete in the worlds most polluted country.

More employment would mean more buying power. But see the labor price is added to the product. so the product's price is labor+material+revenue.
so workers uses labor payment to pay for products that are worth labor+material+shipping+revenue.

there is a hole in my logic but my feeble linguistic skills wont allow me to pass on the knowledge to y'all in a form understandable to the common man.

You'll have to raise the prices by the amount you pay the workers, offsetting any potential economic benefits.

Amirite?

Incidentally, Slashnoob, what did you do to tick off Chakra?
