On A Mapping Spree, Latest Works
« on: August 10, 2008, 09:11:42 pm »
Basically, I'm on a mapping spree at the moment.  I'm making map after map and it's nonstop.  Already made two so far under 2 hours, will probably stop around 15 or so, then will release them all in separate mappacks.  So far I'm using Viggoloniggolo style mapping and I actually like it, I like it a lot.  It's easy and simple to make and doesn't look too bad either.

I'm not so great when it comes to naming maps, so I decided to name all of them after songs from my favorite band, Slipknot.  Image of them and the maps are below.  Below that are links to the songs I currently used.

I kind of am guessing that (Sic) might not get fairly good reception, but htf_Scissors should, tested it and plays great.

If you have finished htf_Scissors, would you PM me the mapfile?

This was just to be a tease, but oh well, might as well release them.  Links are below.

Anyone like the songs or the maps?

I saw Slipknot live once. They were alright.

They're both a tad bland scenerywise, and would play a tad slow. They'd be nice for realistic though.

Slipknot used to be, or at least I'd consider the best nu-metal band.  Now, and since Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses), they became sort-of melodic and very experimental.  I miss the days of their debut and Iowa album.  Those were the days, Wait and Bleed, People=****, you name the song.  Now I'm sort-of sliding towards the heavy metal side, Dying Fetus, Slayer, Cannibal Corpse, etc.  What albums did they play live Wraithlike?

For the maps, I'll remake (Sic), it's ****.  New layout and everything.  For htf_Scissors, plays best with 2 to 6 players and it's pretty tactical and fast-paced.  It's like a red and smaller version of htf_Factory.  Scenery is somewhat bland, I didn't want to overload it.

I'll be making htf_Bleed, inf_Torn, dm_One, and htf_Eyeless.  Songs from maps are Wait and Bleed, Tattered & Torn, Only One, and Eyeless.  Expect something nice for htf_Eyeless, got a good layout in mind.

Eh, I don't know Albums, It was back in '04 at Ozzfest, they were the finale band on the second stage. I don't listen to them so much. I'm not much into metal now, but when I liked bands like Slayer, and Judas Priest (I saw both at ozzfest and they were amazing), then some black metal like Silencer, and Doom Metal, mainly Giant Squid.

On Topic: Scissors is nice, I forgot to look at the size, and should play fast. And yeas, (Sic) is way too simple and boxy to play well. People would just end up camping witht he barrett and m79.

Yeah, most likely it was Vol. 3 (The Subliminal Verses).  So no longer a metal listener?  Onto Rap & Hip-Hop?

Scratch dm_One.  I'm in need of textures.  Going to download this and then decide which will work best.

And will also check on some E_A and Viggoloniggolo maps for some as well.

I still listen to some black and doom metal, but mainstream metal doesn't really interest me anymore. I listen to lighter rock, and some electronica, as well as a tad of hip hop, but I'm very particular about it. lI actually listen to a great variety of music, and rarely focus on just one variety.

The music I listen to is so varied, it's probably better just to say I listen to music that I like, if it's from any variety.

Behold, inf_Bleed.  I think this and htf_Scissors will be the best out of them all.  htf_Bleed has an original layout and is extremely tactical and plays damn well.  Still a WIP, I need to add scenery and make some minor touch-ups, but this is what it'll be.  Best for 4 to 8 players.

If you have any suggestions, feel free to post.

I'm curious to what hip-hop artists you take interest in Wraithlike.  Better not be some whack-ass MCs like Soulja Boy.  No, if you want real Hip-Hop, Old-School is the way to go.  The new age is so washed down.  UK Hip-Hop is also pretty good, it's original at least, take Professor Green for example.

Everyone is entitled to their own taste of music. I, for one, have never really liked Slipknot. I like some of Tool's stuff but then again, I like other bands like Arcade Fire and Okkerville River. My musical tastes aren't all over the place, but it is varied.

Just curiosity: why do you feel the need to replace Vig? I read in some post of yours that you felt the need to take over his sharp, and often harsh way of commenting since he is currently gone.

Not really to replace Viggoloniggolo.  I was sort-of messing around when I said that, Demonic's map.  I felt the need to screw around with him.  Nothing personal though, more like a joke.  I'm a harsh person when it comes to judging or reviewing anything.  Never really had released it onto the forum, but as of lately I have.  I will agree, that post did go over the edge a bit, but then again, I was being sarcastic but in a serious tone.  And his posting style is so much easier to write instead of using complete sentences and such and it's brief and up-to-the-point.

Viggoloniggolo was harsh to everyone, either newbie or veteran.  I'm only harsh to experienced mappers who are literally Soldat legends than make some crap map and I'm like "What the fuck is that?"  "Look like you had spoiled dinner last night and this is what you ****ed out".

Ah, I see. Well after reading that post, then seeing these maps based on the mapping techniques of his, I simply put two and two together. Also that avatar is rather Vig-like too.

But yes, the sarcasm now makes better sense ;).

I've been in a very sadistic and dark mood lately.  The avatar shows that.

htf_Bleed is finished and has been released.  Now onto inf_Torn.

inf_Torn is complete.  I used my "Map Scrap" technique, it's so pretty but it plays nice.  Gets goof FPS too.  Check the CTF/INF Board for it.

You need to fix the shadows..

(make the edges faded out on all of them and have an accurate light source)

It's done and released.  That overview was to just show what the map would be like.
