Crouch shooting suggestion
« on: August 14, 2008, 06:47:44 pm »
I don't know whether this has been suggested or not yet, but it's worth another mention.
When crouching and there is a box in front of you, your player lifts his hands up and shoots over the obstacle. The same is done when shooting from right behind a teammate.
This happens succesfully only on rare occasions. For example, in inf_Moonshine, there is that little barricade facing towards the white flag right in the blue's base. The little red angled one. That one works fine.
But if you go to inf_Warehouse and crouch in one of those boxes, the only thing that you'll be able to shoot successfully is the M79.

After looking at where the shots come from, the problem seems to be the fact that bullets spawn from the player's body when shooting, not his weapon per se. Hence you can't shoot if you're crouching in a box and your weapon sticks out.
It's the same with the barret. You have your weapon and your muzzle out, but your shot gets stopped by the obstacle that's BEHIND it. If this could be fixed, it would be greatly appreciated.

Oh and also, speaking on behalf of a lot of my mates here: a rewritten netcode would be very welcome as well. There are too many shots and kills that don't register lately. I believe that fixing it should be a priority.

I don't think it is that useful to shoot behind obstacles, because the plenty supply of nade make bulletshields worthless.

Agreed, but it would be nice to have this fixed.

If you are behind the box/crate/ whatever, it's because it is like in real life. You place your gun on top of said object to get more stable/accurate shots. It's like a bi-pod. :p

I reckon it'd be nice to have this implemented for guns sticking out of the box/barrel/tin rubbish bin/me but I don't think the idea of guns on top of the collider is suitable

This would encourage campers more,  so F11

as for the netcode, I think we all agree.  The only question to it is wether or not Enesce (developer) could be arsed to do anything

It'd be very nice of him to do so. And I believe there's nothing wrong with camping. If you're a good player, nothing can stand in your way. Except perhaps a 5on1 situation..
Plus being able to prone in a box with your gun out and actually be able to shoot would be very welcome.

well there's nothing wrong with camping really, true

but scenery camping (hiding out of sight) is pretty cheap..  (It's only fun with the chainsaw ;)

also when your inside a crate, wouldn't that block most of the incoming spray? (effectively letting bullets go out but little or none can get in..)

Agreed. The only weapons that can really kill you when you're doing that would be explosives (M79, M72 LAW, Flamed Arrows), the Flamer and the Rambo Bow's arrows (they shoot through colliders, such as crates).

That is exactly my point. Currently, if you're in a box proning, your shots will be blocked by the box even if it's behind the weapon. This is because the bullet is created in the center of the player. This is what I'm asking to be fixed.

Do what I do. Remake the head gosteks with an arrow above the head :)

This has bothered me too as of late. We have this feature where the player lifts his gun and shoots, however, you get a dis advantage. There is no point in being behind cover and shoot as the other players can hit you just as much as you can hit them and you only have 3 bullet burst with the auto when pointing the gun low.

You can't shoot properly behind boxes, if you haven't noticed. It's really pointless hiding behind boxes. Unless you're talking about maps like inf_Warehouse, where saw-camping and m79-camping is one cheap way to use the boxes.

I just put my cursor on favorite hiding spots, if it turns red I toss a nade. I say F12 because it makes sense, and some *possible* slight changes to the defualt maps is worth what I would call a great improvement.

F12 to bullet spawning in front of gun, F11 to putting gun on top of crates- too difficult to implement and just asking for glitches

A thought that came to me concerning "necromancy": that's another reason why topics should have polls. When topic has poll and you want to show your support only, you vote, and it is not necromancy then. If you have something new to say, you post. From the rules:

if you find that the idea has been posted before, please read the appropriate thread, and only if you have anything to add to the conversation should you post your thoughts in the thread and bump it back to the first page of the section.

Quick & simple question, when you crouch down/prone and shoot, why does it get really inaccurate?
