MyiEye, don't mind a-4-year-old. He's just one of our local members who is smart in a lot of areas but still manages to be a prick in a number of ways. Ignore him when it says stuff like that.

I suggest you try to find some of the Idiot's Guide to Java or the Java for Dummies series of computer related books. A lot of them are aimed at people with minimal programming experience willing to learn.

I'd say Java is a good starting point.  It's got most of the features of the more traditional (and powerful) languages like C and C++, but keeps you from doing a lot of dumb stuff and has a pretty easy syntax to follow.  Of course, you won't be able to do anything worth remembering in it, but it's a good start.

Anything program written in C and C++ will always perform faster than the same program written in Java. I wouldn't call these things C and C++ require you to do dumb...

And C++ is not always faster than Java.

I admit my statement was hyperbole.  My main gripe was that you can't make an executable by default, and applets aren't that widespread.
