heavy update
« on: August 19, 2008, 04:54:45 pm »
im downloading it right now, heavy is easily my favorite class.

Bit disappointed with the new guns and arena mode, and they didn't fix winbombs.

so, whos gonna grab Sasha and poon some nubs?

Speaking of the heavy patch, he has boxing gloves as a melee weapon, right? And if I'm not wrong, when you kill a guy with boxing gloves, you have 5 min of crit shots...... Just correct me if I'm wrong man, don't call me dumbass or something like those.

yeah, thats the update, you would know that if you knew how to use google.

Arena maps are even more terrible than I expected, and badwater basin is terrible. the only good thing about that map is that demoman is pretty much useless on it.

Sandvich is sooo much better than some stupid shotgun nobody uses but arena is pretty terrible, the lumber map is soo disappointing, im sick of desert but that map has zero strategy.

Got all my unlocks because I'm a grind sex machine. People love to female dog in pubs. We played arena for a good few hours before going to rage some pubstars.

lol wordfilter.

I like lumberyard a lot better. It is a little linear, but hell, it looks a lot nicer.

not if you're going to play medic, medic is zero fun. pyro is ok, but since hes an ambush class he isn't very fun either, the melee weapons are pretty useless except the KGB and perhaps the ubersaw. soldier should get the next update, hes not very good at anythign, he gets destroyed by pyro closerange because he takes a huge amount of self damage, a rocket loses most of its hurt midrange, and demoman is better than him in almost every way.

Too bad they didn't nerf winbombs yet. Demoman is still superman ultimate any class killer from hell.

Might as well take time in this thread to ask about this game, I am thinking about buying it soon.

So what are the basics of the game? Is is just a run and gun game or does each map have an objective like ET? I hear alot about building up classes, so I am guessing you get xp in the class you play right? If so is it worth my time to build them ALL up or the one I end up playing? Also any other info would be great.

No, it's not really run and gun, not like soldat, it has a tactical depth into it, and class limitations as well, you can't what do you please with any class, every class has a certain function and a unique way to play, team-work is key, worst thing that could happen is ending up in a team with no team-work at all. The game becomes hell, anyway in these situations you can just play Spy or Sniper, they're usually lone wolves.

It's objective based like ET yes, there're 4 game modes :
1- CP (Control Points), which is generally about two teams, team BLU wants to capture control points around the map and the other team (team RED) tries to stop that, roles are reversed after a few rounds.
2- CTF, both teams try to capture the other's "flag" which is an intelligence briefcase.
3- PL (PayLoad), attacking team tries to push a cart on rails (by staying next to it) through the map to the other team's respawn, roles are also reversed.
4- TC (Territorial Control), it's basically CP but each map is a territory of a much greater map.

You get achievements in the class you play yes, like for the medic for example: healing 7000 HP in one life, getting 11,16 and 21 achievements respectively gets you the unlockable weapons for that class. It's really up to you, you normally try all the classes and then like 3 classes appeal to you, and they become your specialty, and you try to get the achievements for those classes, you can be good at more than just 3 of course, if you have the time. Valve's still working on the updates though, only 3 classes out of 9 have unlockables and personal achievements.

EDIT: I hope that was enough info :), it's really a great game and a wonderful gaming chillout after a long tiring day.

none of them save hl2 is very long, and with the kind of story they have you won't forget.
its 5 games
HL2, and episodes 1 and 2
portal
Team fortress 2
their individually priced around 20-30, on steam the orange box is now 40 instead of 50

and theres a pissload of mods for hl2
