Team Shuffling
« on: August 27, 2008, 02:15:02 am »
Basically at the end of each round the teams are shuffled to form completely new teams. This would stop one dominant team slaughtering the other and make the game more enjoyable. Of course this would be an optional setting so clan wars wouldnt change. Im not sure how difficult this would be to implement. But what are your oppinions on this?

People who say "Can be easily scripted" should be required to provide a script doing it.
Although I agree with ziem, it should be an option added into the vanilla client.

Not everyone can script nor wants to bother.

I say f12. Awesome idea.

Also make it so that after a round, the players get sorted by kills or caps, so that there are an even number of pros and newbs on each team.

All this mean is that the work gets dumped on MM, who has better things to do than make up for the laziness of everyone else.

On the other hand, I actually support this because having it as an option would mean it gets used 90% of the time. Because let's face it, Soldat would be a hell of a lot better if people could be arsed to put some of the batter scripts on their servers. But NO ONE DOES. Which means something useful like this would get the attention it needs.

Alternate solution would be to add some of the better scripts in the release of either Soldat or the dedicated server.

wow one of the biggest advantages of soldat is that it is highly moddable... and if you don't want to take this advantage (i.e. NOT EVERYONE WANTS TO BOTHER) then you're being not fair

you should try posting a request in the scripting discussions - give them a chance... motivate them

Not a bad idea, although I don't like the chances of ending up on Alpha team...you already know I'm more of a Bravo guy, losing team or no.

No, I would imagine he has a real job.

Its still his game (I meant his job as the developer), and I believe he does too, he can't live off registration fees forever.

He's working on many other projects, so at the moment, the main devs are EnEsCe and FLAB.
If there's a suggestion that would improve the game as a whole, I don't think it's good to just say "Well, hell, it can be scripted. Do it yourself."
I am all for this being added to the game.

I like the idea, but as others have said, its easily scriptable. Yeah some people don't like that "excuse", but our(the devs) time is better spent on other things that you, the player, cant already do; rather than wasting time doing things you can already do.

Though, if someone does actually script any ideas such as this and can provide CLEAN and EFFICIENT code, I will be more than happy to integrate it directly into the server/client. As long as the idea doesn't suck dry nutsack.

How does this even the chances of each team's success?  say, a clean match is played (a veteran or two on each team with assorted lower skilled players to accompany them) and then it jumbles up, and suddenly all the veterans are placed on one team and the "good" game is ruined, so it could really go both ways in terms of a 'fair' match.  F-fk'n-11

Perhaps instead of randomly reorganizing the members, it would look at the scores of the teams and try to balance them, like alternating down the list of scores.

ARSSE already comes with a /skillbalance feature. Works quite nicely. It goes off player scores, I think, which is not so nice if you're playing CTF or Infiltration.
