Metal Slug
« on: August 28, 2008, 08:56:25 pm »
Yes, metal slug, this is one of the best moment of my life. I got seven titles of them and I'm enjoying them like a porn. I also prefer the PSP version of metal slug, you can get wall papers and music into your console and PC.

I cannot imagine me, getting tired of this game, especially when there are craploads of challenges you can do in this game.

*PS* For the people that doesn't know the titles, they're 1 2 X 3 4 5 6.

They're good games. Simple, intuitive and well designed.

I prefer Plastic Snail though.

I thought the PSP port of the Anthology was ass. The sound desyncs so horribly. They must have been pretty inept at coding if they couldn't figure out how to have a sound effect ready to play beforehand instead of spending a full minute at a time searching the UMD for it after the event has already happened, sometimes even pausing the whole game to do so. Assclowns.

Anyway, that aside, yes, Metal Slug is brilliant. Particularly 3. I hate using this word since the Internet is slowly strangling its meaning to death, but the final stage is, well, epic. So is everything leading up to it, but especially the final stage.

I think it was Field Marshal BM, by the way, who once made a Metal Slug mod for Soldat, but to be honest, it did a very poor job of retaining the Metal Slug feel. I got the impression that he had never actually played Metal Slug, and was more or less doing it for the popular demand of it.

Edit: Ooh, I hear Metal Slug 7 is in development for, of all things, the DS.

No, I had played it before and loved it. That's why I made the mod.  It's just hard to transfer the epicness of MS to Soldat as they are unique in their own ways.

To stay on topic though, I've known about MS for years and loved it. Haven't ever played 6 though  :-\

Yeah it's cool. My friend is obsessed with them though. As far as I know he's beat them all.

Metal Slug eh? Pretty cool game. But I think it's recently getting... less good compared to the older versions.

I played 1, 2, X and 4. I saw some videos of the other versions and I was pretty unimpressed.

4 was the worst of the series in my opinion

I think 8 credits was my highscore for finishing 2. (On MAME, not an anthology)

I've only played 1, 2, 3, and x though. And this one pooty one for gameboy advance with crap aiming where you could take 3 hits before you died. The ending of 3 is indeed epic.

Also, MS>Contra. Can't wait for the DS Metal Slug, because although Contra 4 is okay, it was a bit of a disappointment for a next-gen handheld.

Screw anthology man, get the asian one from somewhere. It's called "Metal Slug Complete."

The ending of 3 is indeed epic.

Yes it was, I have never expected a giant brain alien would come out and attack my tank.

You should reconsider 5th one. In my opinion, Metal Slug 3 was far the best Metal Slug I've ever played. Long story mode, awesome super natural happenings, and kickass bosses. Also, Metal Slug 6 was quite interesting, because you were able to hold 3 weapons at a time. (Including a pistol)

If I also remember well, it took me 10, or was it 13 credits to beat the hard mode on Metal Slug 3. And yes, it is extremely hard.

4 was definitely the worst except in music. I loved the soundtrack of it. Aside from that, brutally half-assed, most likely because it was from a completely different team than the first 3, so they basically re-used whatever they could from previous games and then sucked at whatever they had to make new. Also, I loathe both Trevor and Nadia simply for existing and leaving Eri and Tarma out. I suppose they were trying to be WOW WILD NEW CHECK IT OUT, but, as I mentioned, they sucked too much.

Also, truthfully, I liked 2 better than X.

I would really agree that the other Metal Slugs are better than 4. Ya, I like the music for 4 (the one for the final mission) and the concept of having a robot army and chimpanzee transforms, but it could use a lot of improvement. I personally liked Trevor but the sprite's face and his knife attack are crap, and Nadia was absolute rubbish.

Heavy Machine Gun for the win!

Note:
I personally use Marco. My favourite transform is the Zombie transform, I absolutely love that "grenade", which makes you vomit blood and wipe out almost the whole screen in front of you.

I only recently played them. I had absolutely no idea how fun it was. It's one of those games you need to play to realize how fun it is.

I suppose I'll buy that; his actual character design is pretty cool, like when you see him in the intro where everybody is lit up by the monitor and he's looking all serious and stuff. But he looks god-awful in the game and his stupid-looking knife attack leaves him ridiculously open.

Myself, I always use either Tarma or Fio depending on mood and whether or not one of them has been replaced by Trevor.

Heavy Machine Gun for the win!
For me, it's Shotgun for the win! HMG maybe really useful, but when you're dealing with mummies and other super natural craps, shotgun's your best buddy. I actually liked Fio for some reason..... Maybe because she was pretty hot in the wall papers..... Or not.  Btw, Tarma actually looks like a muslim guy with a turban on it in the game.....

X if for you if you want metal slug 2 more challanging.

The shotgun is pretty cool, but the Flame Shot does better against the super naturals actually, because it has a longer range and can shoot a bit faster, yet the damage is high enough to clear them quickly.

The reason why I like the Heavy Machine Gun is not just for its versatility (high rate of fire, relatively good damage, can last a while, decent against any enemy) is because it has the ability to shoot 180 degrees if you use it right, literally. When you press the UP button and shoot at the same time, your character will lift his gun rather slowly while shooting and thus will be able to hit not just the enemies directly above you or those in front of you, but those diagonally. If you want to shoot those diagonally down, then just jump and press the DOWN button and shoot. This 180 degree thing is useless against enemies with lots of HP, it's better to be used against the normal infantry.

I would agree that X was the best for me. They had the super powerups, not just the normal powerups. Heh, I'd be extremely happy if my character got chubby and picked up a super laser lol.
