Just stick with IRC and IM buddy lists.
Wouldn't all the data be stored on the sf.com server? I mean, you have to pay for stuff like that, right?
This server can handle more threads than these forums will likely ever throw at it. As for speed, SMF is designed for speed and should not need to be purged to keep speed up.Key points : The soldatforums pages and content (including attachments, avatars, images, etc) only takes up 846MB. 824MB of that is attachments. This is after over a year of being used. The forums database (that stores all of the settings, users, posts, threads, PMs and everything else) uses 377MB of space on the server The server's main directory where everything is stored, /home, is currently only 3.7GB used. This includes all of the website and database data for Soldat, Crimson Glory, R, Link-Dead, and everything else for MM's projects /home is 137GB in size (three uberfast 73GB hard drives in a multi-disk array for redundancy and extra performance) The CPU usage on the server rarely goes above 2% total. The server is a dual dual-core machine, so it has 4x2.4GHz and 4GB of RAM. For those of you who are initiated in Linux/Unix, the load averages are 0.03 0.08 0.08 right now.I built this server with future expansion and load in mind. If we ever run out of disk space, I have room for 4 more disks to add to the /home array, and that can be done with minimal interruption to the server's functions. The Soldat forums are not a resource concern, and they won't be for a long time edit: http://sysinfo.wizard.u13.net/
Depending on what people attach, right?
This needs to be added, I wouldn't doubt that other forums have this feature.
