Long page and image load
« on: September 02, 2008, 05:47:10 am »
Since I came back home after being at my parets place over the summer the forums and soldat.pl are loading slow for me. The images take ages to load, the first page load takes over 30 seconds but after that the pages load normally except for the images.

All other websites load just fine for me.

blackdevil, give links to pages that load slow for you.  I don't see any problems, but if it is only certain pages I need you to give me a link.

Every page does this to me. On the first visit after not being on the forums for a while the page takes like I said over 30 seconds to even display the site, doesn't matter which one(I've tested every thread link in my view history). Most of the forum images don't load or take long time, however, signature images and avatars seem to load like normal.

What browser are you using?  If you're using firefox, what does it say in the status bar as you're sitting waiting for it to load?

Also please do ipconfig /all in a cmd window (start ->run -> cmd) and paste the entire thing here into
Code: [Select]
code  tags
edit: I just changed something that may have caused it.  Please give me the output of ipconfig /all again (this is really important) and check again in an hour to see if it is working better or not.

Is it working in opera now? The problem is that you have IPv6 and there was a configuration problem on the server's end that was temporarily breaking IPv6 connectivity to forums.soldat.pl.  It has been fixed now and should not be a problem again.

I need to know if it is working for you or not, because there may be a problem with your pseudo-ipv6 connectivity that is causing it to try ipv6, it is failing to connect, has to time out, and then falls back to ipv4.  I would like to work with you to fix that problem, because you will have it on other sites at some point.

Still have the long loading for the first page after not being on the forum. Most images load instantly now except(that I can find now) the major, camper stars and the clip for attachments(http://static.forums.soldat.pl/Themes/Soldat/images/icons/clip.gif)

Would it help if I disabled IPv6?

That would likely help, but it would be better to figure out what the problem is.

On the command line, what do you get when you do
ping6 forums.soldat.pl
ping6 soldat.pl
?

Also, since you mentioned that IE7 works, what happens if you go to http://ipv6.soldat.pl or http://ipv6.google.com in IE7? If you can get to either of those, then this is a problem with Opera.

I get:
'ping6' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
operable program or batch file.

Also, since you mentioned that IE7 works, what happens if you go to http://ipv6.soldat.pl or http://ipv6.google.com in IE7? If you can get to either of those, then this is a problem with Opera.
Neither of those works.

Ok, something is causing your computer to think it has working IPv6 connectivity when it really doesn't.  Unfortunately, your only choice is to disable IPv6.  Go into your network connections section of control panel (I forget how to get to it on Vista, it is some convoluted process compared to XP)

Right click on your wireless or wired connection, go to properties and uncheck the Internet Protocol Version 6 box.  You may or may not have to restart your computer, and then all of these problems should go away.

Sorry for the problem, but unfortunately it isn't on my end so there isn't anything I can do to help you.

So i disabled the IPv6 and restarted the computer and I still get it >_>
Well at least most of the images load now instantly. I can live with the long loading everytime I visit the forum.

Thanks for the help though.

I have no idea what the cause is... try firefox and see if it works?

Also, go turn IPv6 back on.  If that isn't causing your problem, that would be a good thing to have turned on for now/the future.

Out of curiosity, can you get to http://ipv6.google.com ?  Did you end up turning IPv6 off on your system?

I turned it back on and no I can't get that link to work. As far as I know the University's ISP don't use ipv6. When getting my settings I got it for the ipv4.

EDIT: Crap...the problem is back :x

Yeah, looking at your ipconfig output again I can see that it is a 6to4 IPv6 addresses, and Windows generally manages those reasonably well.  Your problem is something else, you may want to talk to your campus helpdesk about it.
