eh, I haven't done this in ages; this probably will tell you what it is: Right click on My Computer, Manage, Device Manager, somewhere along the tree is a motherboard section, click it and it will probably give you some information about it.

Only a tiny part of the cloud will illuminate. The light from the laser will dissipate in all directions, but the brightness will so so significantly reduced that it won't really make much of a visible difference at all.
