I prefer to use my nades at the spawnees as I retreat with the flag rather than hurl myself away, and risk harming myself in the explosion process. besides, you rarely have time to just hover above the nades like that..

If you time it right, you don't hover long at all. And you have more than half health.

Well, that's kinda my point. you're much better off with full health and throwing your grenades towards the enemy spawn. You really don't gain much of a headstart anyway. I mean, not that much.
