Fighting the Boogie - DO's and DONT's
« on: September 21, 2008, 06:12:33 pm »
Hello everyone. I haven't been a Soldat player for long, but I do liek this game and am farely good at it. I like the soldat sever with the BoogieMan the most.

But when playing,  I noticed that I die more often from my teammates than the enemy. So I made a short list of my observations:

- Granades are your friends. The AI of the BoogieMan is scrpited to avoid granades until they detonate. A single granade thrown in front of them can stop a whole army of them for 2-3 seconds. By throwing one by one in intervals you can keep them at bay until your weapons or your teammates ones are reloaded.
Do NOT spam granades. You end up hurting your teammates more than the enemy and then are left without them when you need them.

- DO NOT PUSH. If you're using any weapons that has a big push (Minimi, Minigun, shotgun) NEVER shoot in the back of your teamates - you only push them into their death. Same goes for granades. I lost count how many times I got pushed from a perfectly secure position by some prick that decided it would be fun to shoot me in the back with a shotgun.

- Form a slope wall. Form a wall of bullets. Find a slope so you can fire over each others heads instead of into each others back. Crouching or going prone helps too if you're on flat terrain. Weapons with slower speed can be fired in an arc over the heads of those in front of you. Granades too.

- Push weapons go in front. Weapons with high push should go in front. Miniguns and minimis especially. Those using shotguns can arc their shots from behind if needed.

- Tag Team. While two fire the other two wait and reload. Once the ammo is back the first two fall back, while the other two move forward and open fire, providing a near-constant rain of steel.

- Narrow passages are your friend. The BoogieMan can't jump over the granade easily here or jump you from above. Walls provide excellent places for richoses. Two minigunners can hold off a whole army here for an eternity if need be.

- Blast me gently. M79 (the granade launcher) is a excellent weapon, but for the love of God, watch where you shoot that thing. It has enough push to fling your teamate right to the other side of the map, to be sliced and diced by the enemy.

- Don't be pushy. If your teammates have no problems holding a position don't try to push yourself in - you're very likely to cause confusion and mess everything up. Especially DO NOT jump in front of a guy fireing a minigun unless you want to get pushed into hte enemy ranks (this is actually usefull if you have a chainsaw yourself).
He really can't stop or the chainsaw wielding horde will overrun him

Unfortunately, most zombie servers I've been in turned off minigun because it causes more lag than usual than without it.

That guide was very well worth not reading.

If you're gonna vs zombies, at least use a saw so it's interesting, the only thing about vs'ing boogies with a saw is that they can't prone, so go for their legs or get a really good boost or run up and rely on good ol' fashion speed.

this is a new low.

I would pay more mind to a message like that, if it wasn't posted by someone who spams themselves.

One spas-er in a tunnel can hold off a horde of boogies/zombies, using the reload trick.
Think the little tunnel in the rock in the right of that deathmatch map bridge. One guy with a spas can hold off 15+ human chainsaw zombies, using the reload trick.

Get a saw and aim for penises or legs.  Works the same way, figure out the spot where you own then and keep it that way.  And yes, speed is an important factor.  If your whole team does this, what can go wrong?

Possibly shoot reload shoot reload etc - awesome for holding off sawers, especially in tunnels.  Sometimes while reloading, you end up having to shoot straight ahead, so this is better for tunnels (shotgun reloads shell by shell)

The reload trick (it's been mentioned a few times in the past week or two) is where you keep the reload button held as you fire. Each shell you fire will be reloaded in a much shorter period of time, as long as you press the fire button 'after' each reload. The result is that you can fire (almost) full speed, and never run out of ammo. You never have to fire straight, because your aim returns to normal at the moment each shell is reloaded.

Oh... I often got forced to shoot straight because the gun is pointing straight as the shell is loaded - I'll try that trick later

.... I just grief players with pushing them. They flame me so much :D
Besides, this guide is a common sense.... Whoever played a zombie mod for at least a week should know it.

Right. It is Common Sense. But you know what they say about it?

How silly of me. You're so right! Who needs guides? Obviously everyone is as gifted with the absolute knowledge of the game as you are.  ::)

No, seriously, this may not be new to you, but not everyone out there knows this stuff.
Maybe it's because most people playing the zombie mod don't care, don't want to care, are n00bs, or simply pricks that love to sabotage you.
I don't know, but certanly the impression that I got is that player who know how to play it properly are rare and few in between.

also if you have a barrett or use fists they seem to just stop and camp somewhere next to you until you take a weapon.
Also when you "shoot" your own chainsaw they seem to try to avoid you and back off...

Barret and Ruger are probably two good weapons to hold the zombies, because when they see the players with those two weapons, they crouch.

Only problem with 'freezing' the bots, is that if you are on an infection server, the players rape you.
