Spying in R/S
« on: September 30, 2008, 05:12:43 am »
there was a suggestion for disabling teamchat for dead players [http://forums.soldat.pl/index.php?topic=7307.msg84498;topicseen#msg84498]

but it doesnt really solve much, because on CW's some clans use voice communicators.

How about preventing spying in R/S mode by making enemies invisible after you die? This would be optional, very useful to set on the server before Clan War.

A better idea (proposed somewhere in that thread you linked to) would be to have dead people see exactly the same as the person they're following. That way the only information they could relay would be information freely available to the remaining players, which is good enough.

Please treat it seriously, because it's the biggest problem in r/s mode...

It's not the biggest problem in R/S by a long shot (at least not in the NA community), but it could really use a fix.

Making the enemies invisible after you die might work for the most part, but it would be really weird watching your team shoot at thin air. :D

Edit: Yeah, what -Major- said. ;D

In R/S CWs there are alot of planning between rounds sometimes. There's only about a 5 second period when everyone is dead and awaiting the next round and that would be the only time you could tell your teammates what to do. It's just not as good an option as what Vis suggested.

Not only that, removing the text doesn't solve the problem of spying through voice communication (Vent, etc.).

I always thought you'd just make it so you can only see what people on your team can see. A checkbox of course. How hard would it really be to implement?

we are talking about making spectators see only their teammates, not disabling teamchat in any way

1. Take away ability to team speak
That might work, since now you can't secretly tell your friends something without your enemies knowing. Players won't be so bored now that they can see how the match is going on. However, the thing is, you might need to discuss tactics in future matches. Secondly, you can always use mics to speak in.

2. Completely not seeing the enemy
This completely prevents any direct help given, but it is incredibly boring and you can only talk and give advice and plan the next match. You don't see the information that your teammate has.

3. Forced to follow only Teammates + Seeing only what teammates see (you cannot see from a dead body)
If you can see what your teammate cannot then it's pretty much a cheat. This can work very well. You can only rely on information from your teammates and give suggestions, as well as plan for future matches. And it won't be so boring too.

Making spectators only see their teammates (as an option) and only see what the teammates can see would be good.

Yes. Spectator as in dead players, they can only see their teammates.

But those who are NOT playing and are in the spectator team can still see everything.

Yea, great ideas. It still won't prevent voicechat, but it's a start.

...Dead men don't speak...

Well, it's a game. And if players don't speak, they get bored and they also can't plan for future matches.

But the main issue is spying. Spying is basically informing your friends about the enemy's whereabouts, nothing to do with giving advice. Disabling teamspeak/voice chat is a terrible idea. It is best to follow Idea number 3 of my post (which people have suggested earlier than I did), you can only rely on the information that your teammates have since you cannot look at anyone except your teammates and you can only see what a teammate sees.

How about making the entire screen fade to black when you die? That way you wont see crap but you can chat normally and you dont need to limit anything else.

It would be really effective.

Yes it does.

The most bonus you'd get from your team-mates is something like "watch your 6!", since they can look at a part of your view that you aren't looking at.
May the Lag be with you.

Alt+F1 - F3 are hotkeys for your custom lag settings.
Alt+F4 will disable the lag entirely.

Vis's idea is the only sensible one in this thread.

I don't know why voice communication has been brought up because there is absolutely nothing that can be done about that here.
