t(O.Ot) t(O.Ot) Halp.
« on: October 01, 2008, 11:20:35 pm »
3=

My newest drawing is anatomically incorrect. No, not the ears and the tail. I mean this supremely hard-to-draw pose that's making my figure look anatomically incorrect.

Oh, I've sketched and used references, but this pose is by far the hardest out of anything I've ever drawn.

Help a sheezyartist out?

Looks like she's been laying in the middle of the road and had a truck wheel run over her back.... Other than that, abit more meat on the biceps.

That flat portion of the lower back needs to be shortened/removed.  The spine has a natural curve to it, that you've effectively flattened in that portion, thus making the character look too long for the proportions.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

I think the arms should be resting on the ground properly, she looks like a seal.  (It seems her stomach is on the ground, but her arms are raised but still in a resting-on-the-ground position)

ah, yeah and her back needs more curve.

other than that, it's hawt B)

Her torso is freakishly long, and the boobs are facing an odd direction.

Thanks guys. Knew there was something about the back that bothered me. I'll shorten the torso a bit, and put a more natural curve in her back.

I meant for the breasts to be squished to one side by one arm, and under the other arm. I tend to flesh out my characters to the very end of the general stick figure sketch. The one other thing I'd like to mention is that some portions of her body aren't exactly facing the right direction, and some more forshortening is needed.

Disproportionate, and incorrect anatomically.

Dang.

On another note, the legs and arms are pretty good. (those are the parts that I always have trouble with  :|)

Just a general artsy-rule: always do a stick/circle/whatever outline before doing any features or anything. Your legs are different sizes, same with arms. One of the legs looks bent in half at the calf. That would be minimized by an outline.

Also... her shirt is cut away for the sheer purpose of showing cleavage?
Take a basic art class, it goes a long way.

Her shirt is held together by a small belt and buttons. You really can't see it because of my sketchiness style.

As seen here.

Btw guys, thank you for being so serious so far, without any trolls in sight. Kazuki has definetly done a great job by himself and his gang. :)

If it helps, I tend to use the head measurement system to help determine body proportions. Measure the height of the head from very top to the bottom of the chin. 6 to 8 heads is a good measurement for the height of a standing figure. Somewhere around 4-6 is good for your average prone pose.

Generally, you've got the head itself (1) the torso (2-3) and the legs (3-4). It looks like you've got 1/4/4 going on there, but you've said you'd shorten that up, so that's not an issue.

You've done an awesome job on the head itself, but her neck and shoulders seem a little flat. Round out her shoulders and collar bones more so that her neck doesn't seem like a popsicle stick. A little shading will also add a lot of depth there.

Similarly, you've got her scrunching her breasts together (A+ in my book) but the position her arms are in is unnatural. Give her a little more width in the torso by spreading her arms out a bit more.

I can't really say anything else that hasn't been said already. The drawing looks great so far, and you've got a lot of talent, especially when it comes to basic proportions and the human figure.

I'd be interested in seeing more of it once you've shortened her torso/back a bit and touched up on what's been mentioned thus far.

maybe some of my feces will help you measure the body correctly

also, the tail is coming directly out of the anus

Why why why why why do I click links? Why? I should not.

Make her less squished I guess, like what EnEsCe said.

feces?

That ain't bad at all, except the arms reminds me of the arms used on the pirates in Sinbad: Legend of the Seven Seas. Curvy body shape in general though. I like it.

Btw, the tail is just directly above her anus, if you haven't looked at a cat's butt.

I have a cat and I've seen a cat's asshole a lot of times...
and the tail is really too low to not be a floppy dildo

Ok for one thing, you would know this? We've all seen a cats bum, but i dont think many of us concentrate on it for that long.

If you extrapolate the tail that's retreated into our buttcracks, it would have its root slightly higher than you have it. It's just a tad bit too far into the buttcrack >.<

I'm not sure how far you want to go with the technicalities. One thing I want to say is you should only consider as much as you feel comfortable with, since overextension with learning can be detrimental too D:

Body proportions...well, seems like the guys here are pretty much over that. Main thing I want to point out is that your angles aren't matching up. This is what your drawing suggests:

The torso is twisted at an unnatural angle. You should decide which angle you want the entire body to based upon, the torso or the legs. Even if you really do want that twist, it's an awkward twist in real life and I wouldn't suggest it.

Just a quick attempt by me if I wanted it to be torso angle. I've never drawn anime style before so I just had to try my hand at it, sorry.

Keep at it Blue ^^ As Dante said, art fundamentals goes a LOOOOOOOOONG way.

I was hoping you'd post, Espadon. Thanks for the suggestions. :)

The one other thing I'd like to mention is that some portions of her body aren't exactly facing the right/same direction, and some more forshortening is needed.

Mmm...I think I knew about the twisted back. The sketch's good, imo D: (come to think of it, isn't that why you spent such a long time before posting here? ;D)

Oh sorry, no I've been really busy these last few days. Fall Play rehearsals, etc. so I haven't had time to keep up. Also sorry I missed that blurb above.

Random fatherly advice: you'll know when you're maturing in art when you start being able to make sacrafices instead of trying to represent everything all at once [think Egyptians with their profile style -- that's like 'greed' of wanting to show everything].

Addendum: Why Sheezyart and not dA?

dA has millions of artists on there submitting art about every 30 seconds. The chances of my art being seen and criticised upon there is about 100 to 1. Perhaps I figured that SA, being the smaller community of artists, would give the odds of about 50 to 1. :x

Other than that, my friend wanted me to go to SA. Didn't ask him why not DA.

Also...I didn't get that second sentence of yours above. :x
