The "Design my ink, if you please" thread.
« on: October 02, 2008, 05:46:10 am »
Hey fellas..
So I'm getting a new tattoo, but I can't quite figure out what to get. As you can see I have one allready, and I pretty much wanna take it further rather than getting an entire new one. So the left lower arm is what I have to work with as for now. Ultimately I'll be inkin' my full arm up to and including the left shoulder, but that'll come later.

So, I wanna just continue the work on this one tattoo, meaning I don't wanna remove the focus from the current one. I want some color in it, but only to provide shadowish effects. i'd prefer to generally keep it colorless for now. I'd been thinking of adding something like a vine with flowers stringing into and across it, and I'm still pretty hooked on that, but somehow it's not enough. So, I'm making this thread to invite you people to be a part of it, in terms of coming up with a few ideas as to what i could do.

Also, I only want serious suggestions here. Any crap, and it'll be reported as such.

Thanks,
echo

Is that Arabic? If so, what does it say? If I were you, I'd lace it with red roses and green vines and quite possibly put shiny silver guns on either side, (to look like Guns n' Roses).

I'm aware that you don't want to take focus off of this one, but I just can't resist suggesting you get SOLDAT tattooed on your chest, with blood stained effects surrounding it with maybe a few gosteks around it.

Says Nik Massan, my name in arabic. European version would be Nick Madsen.

(to look like Guns n' Roses).

Quiet you!

Get the Chinese symbol for "lower left arm".
I attend grammar school, last grade, and ignorance is all around me. Well, good for them. Ignorance is bliss.

WEll, I don't know if this is particularly helpful but...

I'm getting a tattoo for my 18th birthday, Roughly a year away, and i'm planning to get a shoulder piece. I was originally going to get some kind of wing or wings but i realised it was a bit lame, so instead i'm getting an hourglass with writting next to it.

In your case i think you should get a symbol that corresponds with your text. I don't know what it says, maybe if you gave more information on what that says more people could offer a better example for you to get ideas from.

Also, with you wanting to get vines, it's important that you get something that is meaningful to you, there's no use getting something that looks good if you don't like it.
I personally think the vines would only look good if they were around an object that circled the words but you probably think otherwise.

I probably wasn't helpful but yeah...
Lol, internets.

It says Nik Marsan, not Nik Massan(judging by what I see.
This would be Nik Massan: نِكْ مَسَّنْ

EDIT: Oh wait, I mistook the daal for a ra, tell the dude who wrote your tattoo to learn how to write, a daal is much more straight around the bottom than a ra is. For comparison:
ر != د
Daal != ra

Hmm... That's odd. Got wasted in turkey once when I had it done, and this guy in the airport on the way home read it like Nik Massan.

The vine is not meant to mean anything, only to make it look better. I do believe in tattoo's having a meaning and such, but I also believe the body to be a canvas, if you will, and any decoration does not necessarily have to be meaningfull.

I think you should get a tattoo of your daft punk avatar in color.

Actually that's not a bad idea.. I was thinking of doing like a collage thing above the elbow with all sorts of things I like, and the Punk would definitely qualify. Hmm, i'll have to think more about that.

"Place gun here" with an arrow pointed to your hand. If I can do that without getting in trouble I may get that once I go into the army. :D

Top tips:

If you're going to get a tattoo then design it yourself. If you can't draw then learn to draw so that you can design it yourself.

If you can't decide what you really want then don't get a tattoo until you're 145% sure. That way you can still back-track 45% and you would still be 100% sure.

Make it meaningful to yourself, perhaps a representation of how you feel about the universe and all the right/wrong in it. Don't go for the typical my-name-in-another-language tattoo, especially if you have no plans to accompany it with a more eye-catching tattoo nearby. Don't get random tribal tattoos and don't get star-sign tattoos if you don't believe in astrology.

Wolf_Man, everytime you post I feel a little piece of my soul being ripped and lost beyond repair. Post something constructive you dumb fuck, or get the crap out of my thread. It's people like you who make the lounge the shithole it's been reduced to.

If you're going to get a tattoo then design it yourself. If you can't draw then learn to draw so that you can design it yourself.

Woah mangled, that's really good advice.

Don't go for the typical my-name-in-another-language tattoo, especially if you have no plans to accompany it with a more eye-catching tattoo nearby.

Uuhm... too late, mate. And if you read the thread more carefully, or at all, I'm stating here that I am in fact looking "to accompany it with a more eye-catching tattoo nearby". Further more, I don't take tattoos nearly all that serious, as I also already stated. Besides, you don't really strike me as the kinda person I should listen to about.. well, anything.
So thank you, but not really.

If you live in a city, I believe you should already be inspired by the graffitti art and the random sharpie crap adorning signposts and other city-paid road signs and buildings. If you haven't, well the least you can do is to put a heavy one-line border all around your name, and then fill the area around the border with lines, roses and stuff.

(Be sure to put it on paper before consulting your tattoo artist)
