Any good anime?
« on: October 02, 2008, 04:47:43 pm »
I know this isn't 4chan or anything but is there any "good" animes nowadays? Cause all the other ones I watched sucked.

Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Death note.

Only three that I could stand. everything else just seems to fall into the really nerdy stereotypes.

I've seen Death note, didn't like it. Might as well watch Ghost in the Shell. Thanks.

Cowboy Bebop is a good anime, space and comedy/seriousness

Ergo Proxy is suspense and cyberpunk.

No, they are not the same thing.

What † said.

My brother has started watching Darker Than Black. The music is composed by Yoko Kanno (who also composed the music to Ghost in the Shell as well as many other great anime series), which is promicing, but other than that it just seems like a poor copy of Heroes.

I enjoyed Lucky Star a lot; Samurai Champloo was kind of forgettable. Haruhi was one of those 'pick it up or keep it down' kind of stuff. Elfen Lied is good the first time around; just use subtitled ones because the English voice acting sucks hard toad balls. I also enjoyed Gurren Lagann [kind of a more 'inflated' mecha anime] and Code Geass [YES! MYLORDO! is addictive lol]. Ghost in the Shell if you have a lot of time to kill.

Right now I'm highly enjoying Bone's new Xam'd: Lost Memories series. It's still coming out so it can be annoying waiting for the next episode... it's kind of a steampunk/organomecha anime that as far as I've heard is like Eureka 7 [never watched it so I wouldn't know].

When I was a lot younger I loved watching the Pokemon movies and TV show. I remember liking reading FMA in 8th grade. I had a Coyboy Beebop movie a friend gave me a while back, loved it. Nowadays, I just stick with the occasional catgirl pic/vid.

I also enjoyed Gurren Lagann [kind of a more 'inflated' mecha anime]

Inflated? That show is so far over the top that...that...well, comparisons fail me, but any anime that even entertains the possibility of throwing a freaking BIG BANG at someone is a little out there.  Still good.  Besides Gurren Lagann, the only other real anime I've seen is Neon Genesis Evangelion, which is pretty darn cool too, but at the complete opposite end of the spectrum.  Gurren Lagann is about piloting bigger and better giant robots, defeating any enemies and overcoming any obstacles, all powered by the whole "believe in yourself and you can do anything" thing.  NGE, on the other hand, is all about mentally ill children (not quite, but you'd understand if you saw it) living in a world that's pretty much going to fall apart at any moment.  But it's deep and stuff, so that's good.
Gamer_2k4

Only anime shows I've felt any interest in over the years are Pokemon (original TV series) and various hentai.
so clearly jgrp is a goddamn anime connoisseur. his opinion might as well be law here.

If you watch anything, see "now and then, here and there". It is the most mindblowing anime I've ever seen and it's only 13 episodes. It starts off kinda slow but when you get to episode 3 you won't regret it.
The only people who wouldn't like this are either otaku or loyal NARUTO/BLEACH/INSERTSHOUNENHERE fans and do not know anything.

Neon Genesis Evangelion

I neglected to mention Eva since it's something that should be watched without any excuses whatsoever xD
