Jesus, tagging is a part of graffiti

TAGGING - WRITING YOUR UGLY NAME
GRAFFITI - WRITING YOUR UGLY NAME WITH FAT, COLORFUL LETTERS

The only problem I have with that system is that it socializes everyone's property, such that the population can vote on whether it may be defaced or not. Even if the graffiti is crazy artistic, it's still property defacement and the owner of that property has the right to refuse it.

True, but I would love to have some crazy good stuff on my wall.

Point is, if it's very very good art, people won't likely to complain at all.

When you said place, I thought it would like a public place, not private.
If it was private, then the owner would have the say.
Always remember the succubus...

THIS TOPIC NEEDS MORE CAPSLOCK

DO I REALLY NEED TO DO THIS AGAIN

Quote from: Oxford_English_Dictionary
graffiti, v.: trans. To cover (a surface) with graffiti, apply graffiti to; also, to write as graffiti.

graffito, n.: (Antiq. and Art.) A drawing or writing scratched on a wall or other surface; a scribbling on an ancient wall, as those at Pompeii and Rome. Also, a method of decoration in which designs are produced by scratches through a superficial layer of plaster, glazing, etc., revealing a ground of different colour; chiefly attrib., as in graffito-decoration, -pottery, -ware.

tag, v.1: 1. f. To decorate with a graffiti tag or tags. Also absol. slang (orig. U.S.).

tag, n.1: 8. i. A nickname or other identifying mark written as the signature of a graffiti artist, often in an elaborately decorative style. Cf. sense 8 f. slang (orig. U.S.).

It's pretty clear. Graffito is the writing or drawing in general, while tag and tagging refer only to the "signature" of the graffitist. The quality of the drawing or writing is irrelevant (like it should be, since that's extremely subjective).
Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you?
Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back?
I'd gladly do it because
I don't want to fade away.

Because they invented tagging less than 16 years ago.

I think any form of graffiti done without permission is strictly considered vandalism and should be reported to the relevant authorities, whether the artwork is well done or not. It is only considered a piece of art or decoration if it is accepted by the owner and the artist is given permission to do so. If the graffiti is to be removed but perhaps its nicely done, it might be a good idea to photograph the work.

Personally, I don't like graffiti, but I'm okay with it as long as it isn't done illegally or without permission.

Well some people chose to do graffiti because graffiti is fun common you go around writing on walls trying not to get people to see you almost like your in a Mission impossible movie :D but also some graffiti just sucks -_- and it just plain makes the city or neighborhood look like $hit so yeah that my opinion

Say you, as an individual, or with your group of friends, want to put your message on the street.

Case A: you buy some paint, start tagging, get better and better, and then spend days putting up a piece of art, or you design a stencil. Your message might be witty, it might highlight a problem, or it might just be a desperate cry for attention.
Case B: you are an owner of a multi-billion dollar company, and can just pay a bunch of other people to put your adverts EVERYWHERE on the street, and your message is basically 'buy our product / feed me moar attention!'.

Fair, 'innit?
