Ropes/Grab?

I expect this would use a lot of packets but what about the ability to grab things?

Attached is a brief example of some of the uses.

Now this could be used for stealth attacks, climbing (MANY new possiblilities for jumps), you could climb up buildings with directional arrows, you could climb across from a building to another by clothesline?

This could be activated by something like C (an unused key close to the controls) and once you've attached yourself to the object you can use the directional keys to move. Up and down move you up and/or down the object, left and right either move you left or right across the rope, building/poly or if on a hanging rope you can use it to build momentum and swing.

You could also get a possibly epic amount of momentum by dropping onto it or something.

Edit: this could work hand in hand with the upcoming movable polys. Dynamically movable platforms? Hell yeah.

And I was considering having them cuttable by knife but then that would potentially destroy gameplay?

Edit2: I just realised movable polys won't be implemented. Damn, but okay.

Agreed.  But let's play the Devils advocate for a moment and take the opposite position.  What about maps without jets?  Wouldn't this be a great feature?

IMO, not really.  Another key to hit, and an extra element to already challenging climbing maps.  In all honesty, I see climbing maps as the only ones benefiting from this.  And since they're not even an official game mode, it's kinda hard to toss my vote behind ropes, etc.

The idea is great, don't get me wrong.  But it's one that has been tossed around many, many times in the past and hasn't been implemented.

F11, it would slow the game down, we would have to play Ballads and play intead of the usual Bloody Soil/Gore

I mean, we don't want the screen filled with unnecessary ropes.  There's bound to be spamming noobs out there to ruin a game... they'll put ropes everywhere.

I meant for the map maker to add them, not as a ninja rope tool sort of thing, I'd established that another weapon tool wouldn't be added.

It might bring a whole new touch to the weapon balance issues, which are already weird...

And I dunno, gunning may be alright but you can't move when gunning? I mean, you can't climb with one arm...
