Forum Gradient

For some reason my avatar matches the forum colours when I'm on my home computer, yet doesn't when I'm using a college computer. Any ideas why?

Well that is a good point... Other than that I have no clue what would cause that... Is it possible for a different type of monitor to process the colors differently?

As you can see, I've designed my avatar so that one side is always matching the background. But with the college computers, the square border is visible.

I think it might have something to do with what amb2010 said. Since simply changing brightness and contrast wouldn't and doesn't have any affect.

It could be that they're running IE6 which fumbles with PNG transparency.

Sorry, mind-fart. If it isn't showing a noticable difference between two somewhat similar colors, then it's either a video card misconfiguration, a dying video card or monitor, or as you said, a monitor setting messup.

Can you take a screenshot of it on the college computers and home computer? It looks perfectly fine for me, so I'd be interested in seeing what you are seeing.

You won't see what he is seeing, because screenshot doesn't rely on the monitor. It will just save the colours and look different on his home and college computers still.

What if it's the video card? Will it just translate to be the same as usual when he uploads the screenshot to his home computer?

I can clearly see all four boarders on the college ones.

What minitor did you do it in? If you did it on a CRT then you might of missed the edges as you think you got them. Paint on a LCD monitor to be sure you get the colors right.

They are both LCD. I used the eye dropper to make sure the colours are directly off the forums. The Photoshop magic wand tool should have picked up the edges too, and even if it didn't, that doesn't explain how they are different.


I might check what settings the monitors have. Anyway, I'll still keep this avatar.

PS can have a habit of making the edges slightly different, especially if you have stuff like AA on for your selection tools or have resized. Use the paintbrush and go around the edges at 100% opacity. I usually don't trust the dropper tool; I usually find the exact color hex code and paste that into the mix box. Just my OCD there, haha.

Yea, and on the college computers none of the sides match the background. I might have a go at what Espadon said.

I don't mind so much, I'm more interested in what's causing it.

Edit: I'm not sure how, since it isn't true transparency, but I think jrgp might have a point with that Internet Explorer thing. I've noticed that the college computers (where none of the sides match) use a version of IE, and I've just tested opend the forums in IE on my computer and it does the same error (I normaly use Firefox).
