To answer your question, a couple reasons. For one, Barret LAW and knife have a startup time, saw has incredibly short range. And the general tactic of M79 rushing is considered noob.

I personally use the term, but only for people who use the M79 and are noobs, not for everyone who uses the M79. For me, it just so happens that many noobs choose to use the M79. But then I don't hardly use it, I mostly think it. People who rant about noobs and flame and stuff annoy me. Just a game.

Don't worry, they'll attempt to fix it in 1.5.0.  For now, stop making these topics cause we don't need any more than what we've got.

Before this thread is shot down in flames, I'd just like to say that I was in the U13 DM server 1-on1ing just a couple of weeks ago with someone named FUCK. He really meant it. I was anally raped by his M79 in Ratcave, Tropiccave, and even Shau and Rok. Yet, he used Ruger a few times and also raped there. He hardly switched the entire time I faced him! His K:D was about 3:1 and mine was... the opposite. I had a feeling it was Mancer. He played like the guy who claimed to be recruiting for the gangsta KILLAZ clan last year and... that guy's name was Pinkerton or something? Him too. >_>

The point of that paragraph was to point out the irony in using the word noob when whining against someone who killed you. I complained, sure, but I knew this guy wasn't a noob despite using the M79. You can be a noob no matter what weapon you use. The only time I think someone is a noob is when they're a one hit wonder, and even then, you still haven't found out until they switch weapons. Those people who are incapable of using, or are unwilling to learn, any other weapon other than the 2 most controversial weapons in Soldat's history are the ones I'm talking about. They are inefficient with everything else.

I'm getting sick of saying the word noob, so here's the last time: anyone who uses the word noob to insult someone needs to chill out, go outside, and realize that it's a game. It isn't even offensive. In fact, I find it hilarious when people call me a noob [sprayer, knifer, etc here] because I killed them. Whining doesn't get you the flag or slaughter NukeFragMaster50279 for the winning kill.

Well For A First You've Been Asked Nicely Not To Talk Like This.

The reason why it looks so bad is that it's got no delay.  Sniper - start up time.  Knife - throwing time.  LAW - start up time.  Chainsaw - long range.

See a trend?  Every one has a little drawback, except M79.  It's just got a shorter range, but that amounts to nothing in a rushing CTF situation.  Those kamikazee shots are the things that make people call em noob.

M79 is the only one-shot-kill with no startup time - [ignoring the saw cause it's got the disadvantage of zero range]

I think thats a big reason, cause Barrett got slapped with a startup time due to it's noobish reputation

people may say it's easy to use, M79'ers will defend themselves by saying it takes more skill, it's kinda hard to take both points into account.

It is possible to take both into account. It is easy to use a M79, but it is difficult to master it. Once it starts to reload, it's dead. Unlike a Barrett, backflipping/rolling etc will cause the M79 to be unable to fire for a much longer period of time while for the Barrett it is consistently 240 ticks and you can fire (not forgetting there's a startuptime). Secondly, doing explosive boosts tend to cause damage to yourself, and using a M79 to do this is no exception. Thirdly, lag is a big problem to the M79 because its shots are eaten very easily and chances are, you see the guy boosted away. Fourthly, M79 not only has a short range, it has a low bullet speed, so in other words it can be easy to avoid at mid-range or more. Fifth, though not noticeable, the M79 actually has bink and movementacc - which can make aiming more difficult.

As for Spas vs M79 at close range, it's like comparing a Ruger to a Barrett. The 1-hitter will kill really quickly in one shot, but take a long time to recover, whereas the semis will take a while.

Yes, I know, grenades. That's one problem that is yet to be resolved.

my turn!

people call everyone a noob, why? because they want an excuse for not being good,

auto's --> Sprayer noob
knife/saw --> chain/knife noob
1hit's --> barret noob
gnade's --> nade spammer

everything is noobish, so let them whine,  you know when they call you a noob they actually compliment you on how good you are owning them right?

LOL, I mostly use the MP5 or Steyr AUG(M14, in my server) and get called a sprayer noob all the time. I think the term noob is a stupid one. It is derived from Newbie, which means someone who is new. Oh no, what an insult. You're new to a game, big fuckin deal.

I know that's not quite what they mean when they say "noob," but that's what it comes from, and it's still stupid. The way it's generally accepted now is like a synonym for dumbass. That's right, you're a dumbass because you used a weapon that someone didn't like. You know what I say? Fuck 'em. Keep doing whatever you're doing because it doesn't matter anyway. it's just a game, and people will always find something to bitch at you about. So keep kicking ass and taking names, and don't pay attention to them. Just sit back and laugh.

Bravo! Exactly my opinion. I'm a pretty skilled MP5 and M79 user, and I'm fairly proficient with the SPAS 12, so I get called n00b quite a bit. But when they are flying across the map in several different pieces and I'm jetting away with the flag, I don't really feel like a n00b.
What I really hate is when I'm on a killing spree or something, and they try to boot me for hacking, or the ultimate in pretentious bullcrap: Possible cheating. They're too shy to lie about it, but they still can't stand getting beat. Cracks me up.

I do have to say this about M79s. M79s are like fat chicks, most people don't like them and they get made fun of, but if that's what works for you then go for it.

I think the term noob is a stupid one. It is derived from Newbie, which means someone who is new. Oh no, what an insult. You're new to a game, big feckin deal.

For some reason, "noob" has only become a term to describe idiotic people who play like newbies or play like a retard, or even by simply behaving like an idiot, while "newb" is now a formal term (with respect) to new players. Sure, it can be used as a term for jokes/laughter (as commonly seen between friends, when they get beaten and they jokingly say "ZOMG HAX!!!! XD") , but how it is used as insults is incredibly silly.

The one who calls the other a noob is the real noob, for he insults another person's play style because he cannot take his play style, and by insulting, he hopes to change the person's play style, so that he himself can dominate that person.

Normally I wont get annoyed when people use the m79, the only time it was starting to ich was yesterday when these two m79's joined a game me and this random was playing. We kept playing and killing them but then he started as well. however it was not annoying because I kept getting owned (which I was: Barret vs 3x m79) but cause it was getting borring.

As for the noob thing, i will never call anybody a Noob and I will never F12 a kick unless I actually saw him/her hacking, never for anything as stupid as "he's gay" or "M79 Noob" . Cause half the time people get kicked cause they killed somebody and that somebody got angry.

With M79 rushing its just a tactic for the weapon, like finding a tree or a patch of grass to snipe. Any you can't complain about getting killed by one m79 bullet cause you can see them for half the screen before there close enough to hit you, in that time you generally get off the ground as dash around to make aiming harder. Every weapon has tactics to master and counter tactics to remember.

Offtopic: STM just zinger burgered everyone.

Ontopic:M79 is great. It's funny. Everyone is shooting and some maniac comes in and blows everyone up, it's funny and fun. I'ts even funnier in zombie servers when your jetting and you get hit in the back by an allied M79er and get flung into a pack of zombies. It';s so funny. It also sucks seeing that slow moving m79 shot moving towards you and you don't dodge for some reason. Boom. Chuckle.

^How to take it lightly.
