World map
« on: October 25, 2008, 07:46:57 pm »
In the old forums, we had a world map where we could place our pin on whereever we lived, why isn't that on the new forums anymore?

"An anomaly of the sea, shrouded in ubiquitous clouds, a mystery to the man as black holes to the world's smartest physicists"

because all old mods were lost when we upgraded and haven't bothered to replace any of them yet.  I'll look into getting that set up again at some point

I hated the world map though, for some of the pins were in North Pole or in the middle of Atlantic Ocean. Could it be fixed in any way, or is it the browser which does that?

don't bother, it wasn't that worthwhile to have anyway.

I'm with a-four-year-old on this, there really wasn't any point to have it to begin with.  It's incompatible with IE7, several forum-users abused it, and it's an overall uninteresting feature.

Use Firefox/Opera, ffs. IE7 is totally not worth having around after encountering that annoying bug's bullcrap. As for the world map, I find it entirely uninteresting and unreliable when it comes down to finding your forumer friends.

... in the middle of Atlantic Ocean...
They might've been living on islands that have now disappeared due to rising sea levels from caused by global warming. :P

I might as well put in my two cents... I wouldn't miss the map if it didn't come back.  It was buggy and only provided one or two handy things, mainly showing the general distribution of members.  Maybe it'll come back, maybe not.  After reading the comments here, it is definitely low priority.

So far 5 votes (including mine) and all of them are Yes. I say it was a nice addition. For some people it might have not worked but that was only for IE users.

I support bringing it back *if* it isn't broken beyond belief like the old one. It was kinda cool to have, except half the peopel lived in the middle of the ocean or on the moon.

It was quite a nice place, i guess it added depth to the forums, as in looking at people's profiles wasn't the only way to find out whereabouts they are in the world, you could get a picture of it too.

I voted yes; it served as an interesting thing to check out (well I thought so)

I may set up the google maps one linked above. I tried to earlier but ran into problems, I'll try again another day when I have more time.
