the happy thread
« on: November 17, 2008, 11:21:47 pm »
i turned on the news today and this is what was basically said

"here are todays headlines. thirteen year old bradley wilson from london was not stabbed or shot in the face on his way to school this morning. the eu breathe a sigh of relief as a stunning global cooling is predicted by scientists to reverse the effects of global warming over the next 100 years. anonymous billionaire benefactors have donated aid into the key banks of the usa and britain causing a complete jump start to the financial crisis. and lastly the legendary heavyweight boxer muhammed ali has died from a heart attack in his home in scottsdale arizona.

wait. yes im just getting reports in that the medical professionals have managed to revive mr ali. and its just an early induction yet but im being told that mr ali has reported having an out of body experience and is now running and jumping around with a new found health"

at least thats what might have happened if i wasnt lying

and so youre only allowed to post in this thread if you can post something optimistic about the age and world we live in. so you are barred mangled

i know half of you are actually closet hippies so just talk about anything so long as its true and makes me happy

Adobe and other major companies are becoming more and more serious and concerned about porting their software and applications to Linux and making sure they're completely compatible and usable. That's an absolute fact and since you use Ubuntu I thought that might make you feel happy/pleased.

As for good things happening in the non-computer world, I've got no idea. Gas prices here in central Florida are going way down, last I checked they were $1.90 USD, as opposed to around $4 a few months back.
There are other worlds than these

Gas prices are going down over here every time I check, same as jrgp.

Oh, and the Dark Knight's coming out December 9th, and Wall-E's already released.

There's always cool new science news coming out every couple months.

And I have to agree on the gas thing, it's gone down from 1.50/liter to 0.95/liter, shweet!

2.19$ US/ gallon here, which is incredibly low thus far. The amazing thing is, it's steadily going down, so it can only get better from here!

It's been that way here in Illinois, as well.

People are always complaining that so much money is being invested in protective actions against the recession in the states, yet we're not seeing any results. Piece of advice: don't think of it from a perspective of "what has happened to help us," but rather from a perspective of "what hasn't happened to harm us". From the latter, it's clear that things could be much, much worse and that there are, in fact, actions being taken to protect us from a recession.

I payed $1.71 a gallon for gas tonight and at the rate that it's dropping, I'll likely be paying 10-15 cents less by the next time I fill up.

They already have?
After they make the movies they'll release them onto TV in a series then begin to make new episodes. (It's not set in stone yet though).

Who doesn't love futurama?
