Does anyone else do this?
« on: December 06, 2008, 07:39:56 am »
Lets sam Im playing CTF and I'm on Bravo, whenever I see something red and moving I just shoot at it. Sometimes this leads me to shoot the FFC but thats ok because I usually only get a few shots in before I notice and I dont play on Friendly fire servers anyway and it usually gives them a boost. But the real problem is when I have a team member wearing red pants with red hair. Sometimes i'll be firing at someone for 5 to 10 seconds before I realise theyre on my team and I find it quite annoying. Red pants by themselves I usually figure it out in a few shots, red hair by itself i dont even notice, but still am I the only person who acts like a racist cop and shoots when he sees a certain colour?

Yep it happens, see the colour then shoot it.
That is a reflex, if you dont shoot then probly dont have good enough reflexes.

So stop complaining

It's kinda like an instinct to see a colour and then shoot, I'm not surprised to see that even some of the better players may occasionally experience this. But in order to prevent this, you'd need better reflexes and you need to learn to see the full picture rather than just looking at colour only.

Yeah I do this a lot, esp when people have really red costumes and are on bravo team. As a religious sniper i dont always aim directly on the target to see the reticle colour, I tend to see a target and aim with their motion before realising my shot didnt do damage. Personally I wish on team games ALL player colours besides skin and hair are overrided. When peoples skin, hair and pants are red or blue it becomes very annoying . My reflexes see a colour and focus on aiming with their velocity, i dont always double check that the reticle is green. But hey it doesnt really punish me much, I wont kill my teammate, ill just waste a bullet. As a sniper this can be frustrating, but its not too dramatic. But yeah I know what you mean, its something that happens which is annoying but cant be helped too much.

Enable "Clanmatch" in Soldat Setup and you won't have that problem anymore...

Heh... I'm one of those people who dress up like that. At the moment, I think I'm entirely blue, to try and confuse bravo players in Infiltration for a few seconds before I blast their heads off. :P

That's a server side option, Niko. Not many admins use it, so problem not solved.

I used to do it alot more when I was a noob, rarely now, but it happens.  I sometimes shoot people who are hurt so badly it look like they are red.

Hell, you don't even have to be carrying the flag for this to happen. Back when I had blue pants and hair, all of my red team comrades would be quick to open fire on my "right place/wrong time" self.

I personally play with clanmatch on, just for variety. It's awesome when somebody with a pink shirt joins.

I do this on occasion. If someone is wearing red pants, red dreads, and is bloodied, I shoot them occasionally. Not a huge deal, but can be annoying when you blast them backwords with M79 or something.

Clanmatch option has the potential to be FAR more annoying actually, but I've never heard of such a case though (see below):

Imagine that you have 2 players who dress 100% alike. One is in your team, the other is in the enemy team. So happens that the teams will share the clothing of these two players. Now, how are you going to differentiate from friend and foe? Even worse if there's friendly fire lol.

well... I think it's worse the other way around. because you know how your clanmates look like. it've happened that I've been killed as the FFC while having an opposing player behind me thinking he's in my team. and then bam :/

I was on Alpha team (improbable), and my teammate threw the flag at a bravo guy, because that guy was bleeding so bad, he thought he was alpha.

Any chance you're remotely colorblind? i reckon that if you are, the colors could easely mix together in the heat of battle.

That would be interesting. I should screw with the saturation on my monitor and give realistic CTF a go  :|

Yea the bloody shirt doesnt help much, I think part of the problem is that Im always playing Bravo so it just becomes and instant reaction, even in other games to shoot red.
