Old Veterans

Well I'm playing Soldat for....omg it will be 4 years in November But I had a break for about 6-7 months. I must say that I'm not the best player but rather good. I'm playing only dodgeball for a couple of months (I'm already bored with CTF or DM) and I was getting kicked, banned, called hacker and cheater just because I end match with 15-20 kills when everone else have 7-8. I already get used to calling me a noob, but damn I can't stand when 15-16 y.o. idiot call me a hacker or cheater. Maybe we're all just too old...
P.S. My nick was always JotEmI[PL] so maybe some of you can remember me, but I doubt, I usually played at polish servers.

I'm really starting to think about stop playing Soldat.... Today I was banned on 3 servers because everyone thought I was cheating. I'm a cheater because I'm better, because I killed one guy 5 times in a row? This is really pissing me off...

Don't play public server...easy fix....
Anyway yeah i have been around since the first version, but im not a true vet now... since i have been playing abour 5 to 6 times a week with people in irc... i really should get back to my old vet status...

I've been around since the USSOCOM was the only secondary, though I didn't start posting on the forums until later.  At any rate, I consider myself a pretty average player--nothing real special, but then again I don't play nearly as much as I once did.

The public CTF servers are pretty sad, so I rarely play those; I do mostly deathmatches, though I'll look for a decent teammatch or rambomatch occasionally (a shame they're so rare).  Fortunately, the deathmatch servers aren't as bad as CTF, and you run into someone interesting every once in a while.

I don't consider myself "legendary" because i'm not. I don't consider myself "veteran" because im probebly not. Although, I have been playing since 1.1.0 on and off, so I do know what people mean in the escalation of newbies/n00bs, and also that 70% of those newb/n00bs join noob/newb clans with newb/n00b names.

That's not just a dumb term, but distinctions among "n00bs" and "newbs" is silly. Just accept that there are new players and older players; good sports and whiny jerks. They are not mutually exclusive.

Servers are hardly loaded with "n00bs" from my experience, at least in the sense you're describing. Usually it's just one or two very vocal whiners who cannot accept that they are not as "1337" as they like to make themselves out to be, new player or otherwise.

"Veteran" does not mean "best," just that you've been playing for a while. Someone who has been Barret flag camper for four plus years isn't as impressive to me as someone I don't know who can come in and mop up the floor with a 5:1 winning K:D ratio.

In my day, we had to walk three miles in the snow just to play soldat.    And there wasn't an internet to play over; we played by using two cups connected with a tight a string, which two people had to hold and talk through.  If they got lazy and the string slackened, there went the conneciton and the game.  There weren't graphics per se; so we pretty much had to just guess where everybody would be and what they would be doing and use our imagination.  And damnit we liked it.  And there were only two weapons, barret and knife.  And we could only aford one barret, so everybody else had to use the knife.

Seriously though, this topic seems a little strange.  I don't think I would get worked up about new people saying you are good, whether or not you feel that its true.  And I don't know where you were playing 5 months ago, but people on pubs, as far as I can tell were exactly like they are now five months ago.  Calling each other n00b and hacker and trying to vote kick people who clearly aren't hacking is not a new phenomenon that suddenly appeared within the last 5 months.

As for not knowing "legendary" players, I think that's also a little strange to get worked up about.  Of course new people won't know older players.

yeah, but it's kinda irritating to a lot of us drunken old vets, to see a fresh 6 months old (for example) rookie whining at the "newcomers".

I might not remember the good ol' days, but im tired of people calling me a noob, noobs are newbies, they suck, its their first days, i suck, i can admit that, but when people like o say SPYDER start calling me a noob, really theyr just getting people back for how much they sucked and people calling them noobs. i am not a nub/newb/no0b/n00b/etc. i am a soldat member and i want to be called a gamer not a newb/noob....you get the point.

I've not played in awhile (primarily due to me being in college now) but even before I stopped I noticed a very large increase in whiners like that, yeah.

Only been around since 1.2.1, but I feel your pain.

It's even worse when they complain about the weapon you're using-- primarily because it doesn't matter if you've been destroying people with every other weapon in the game, the instant you use one someone doesn't like they flip out and cry "noob" at you.

I was once, literally, told by someone to "use a weapon besides the mini already you noob", despite killing said someone with nearly every other weapon in the game before picking that one up and using it once on him.

I have to say the worst thing about the rise in noobs is when they start a server (im surprised they know how) and you join, and at first your having a good game getting a good amount of kills, but as soon as you kill them with a knife throw they kick you cos you're "obviously hacking"
and you got no chance at trying to convince them that you're not cos theres just to many of them and you get kicked straight away
