WWIII Mod - In Production
« on: March 02, 2009, 04:33:30 pm »
I have been modding a little here and there since I first started playing Soldat, but have never publicly released any of my work.  Now, before I start throwing my mod out to the public I would appreciate some critique on my style.  Note that not every gun will use as much black, etc. and that this gun isn't quite finished (slapped together pretty quick).  However, if I get enough positive feedback I will resume working on my WWIII mod and give you little nerds another mod to toy around with ;).  Again, critique is welcomed.

Ok, constructive criticism:

-Pistol grip is too staight.
-Mag is too curved.
-Shading is reallly dark.
-Front iron sight don't have to be so height.
-Imo in this scale there's no need to make this tactical belt montage on top of stock or just make it one pix height.
-Red dot sight looks strange. Something like ACOG? but ACOG don't have flip-up covers. If it supposed to be M2 then I've got to say that it don't look like one.

Quite nice mag color but too hard black lines on it.

Hope it'd help you improve and remember it's always only my opinion ;).

Silly me I forgot to say it's supposed to be an M4A1 SOPMOD.
-As for the scope it is supposed to be a red dot scope (not reflex).  I wasn't sure wether those come with lens covers or not but I thought it might make this more original.
-Agreed about the handle, I'm not really sure what else to do about that.
-I did make this make very dark but I'm not sure if it's my LCD screen or what that makes it look so slick to me.  Naturally, I have a not-so-black happy original version of this gun as well, but after using Field Marshall's mods I have come to appreciate his style of using black to add an abstract feel to the gun.  Basically, I tried to fuse my photo-realistic tastes with Field Marshall's abstract style.
-Oh and just in case anyone asks WTF that is right behind the scope that's supposed to be where you cock the weapon.

If you want people to see the subtleties in dark guns, don't put it on a white background; put it on a neutral grey or darker bg.

It's still really dark. I wouldn't suggest using pure black on anything but the outline.

Well the shading and brightness look fine on my screen, but I guess ill re-shade it about 10-20% brighter.  As for the shape, if you pull up a picture of an M4 rifle then it is almost exactly the same, though I must say the stock of the rifle should probably be extended seeing as how this is a long-range weapon but I when I try it it doensn't look quite right.

Stock is now good. Imo you should still work a bit on shape of handle and mag and it'll be fine.
