Sound Effect Problem
« on: January 01, 2009, 04:42:27 pm »
This isn't much of a mod . I'm just changin things in the soldat directory like Sfx Weapons skins Soldat.ini files  etc.

Talking about the chainsaw sound - "chainsaw-m.wav" = the sound that plays when you're not doing nothing / idle with the gun (can check it out if don't know it).

[medikit] After I replaced it (with a futuristic beepy sound) and i started the game It sounded like the sound i replaced was repeating too quickly (not like the default repeating of the chainsaw sound -that repeats after the sound is finished);  -it overlaps- .
So the sound plays like : [---------]
                                       [----------]
                                           [----------]
And so goes on till my speakers are filled with crappy distortioned sound. - even when i go back to the menu (when i exit the game)

So i thought to myself that the time of the sound is the problem , and I took the original sound and made a small change to it (so i can hear the difference) , and put it in the Sfx Folder - like always - , with the original time of the sound . But still , it does the same thing .
-Same thing did with Bitrate , Quality , Depth , Size  etc.

Any modder knows the problem / wanna help me out please ?  :-\

Edit: It's not THAT urgent but come on!..

sorry for my english if i have mistakes

Master edit !!

I recently put something in the wermusic.wav's place (the sound playing at the beginning) and it worked fine . -tho the volume it was low . So i edited it in Fruity Loops (8 ) . So i edited it to a higher volume and replaced . After i started the game the sound repeated itself . I think that's the problem .
What option in fruity loops should i change to get the wav not repeat itself ? D:

Offtopic:oh and btw  In which map can i find a Stat Gun ?

The chainsaw sound is overlapping because it is too long. It is hardcoded into Soldat to play that sound at a constant interval, this means if the sound is longer than the default one it will begin playing the sound again before the previous one has finished.

I recommend using Audacity (google it) and you can easily select and delete segments of the sound which aren't needed to help cut it down.

Here are the intervals for the chainsaw sounds:

Chainsaw-D.wav = 1.14 seconds
Chainsaw-M.wav = 0.32 seconds
Chainsaw-O.wav = 0.32 seconds
Chainsaw-R.wav = 0.50 seconds

Note: You can be up to about 4 hundredths of a second over or under without overlapping being very noticable.

With regards to the looping sound, you could take the old one which worked but was too quiet, right click on it, click 'Record' which will open it in Windows Sound Recorder, then go to Effects > Increase Volume. Increase it to the desired volume and then save.

Sometimes Soldat will loop sound files that are too long/short, try adding some silence on to the end of the sound.

Stat gun can be foud in ctf_kampf.

It shouldn't make a difference as to whether you play R or N. Check if you have 'statguns' in your Options tab checked off or if the server you play on disabled statguns.
