A little story about a Barrett-hater
« on: January 03, 2009, 09:10:47 am »
This happened when I was in an Infiltration server quite some time ago (last year), I think it was Game Arena. I couldn't catch the moment with screenshots/demos sadly, so I'd just type what happened out here.

There was this guy, who absolutely hated the Barrett M82A1. He claimed that it was a skilless weapon, simply point and click (but he respected the M79). With such deep hatred for the Barrett, he would even use his MP5 to bink his fellow teammates who used Barretts. As a result, no one in his team could use the Barrett properly without risking being interrupted.

It was on Inf_Outpost. The guy was in blue team Bravo, while I was in the red team Alpha. He still whined about the Barrett after a couple of rounds, especially since I did have a teammate who also used a Barrett. I was killed earlier and saw where the guy was - he was at the beginning of the bridge that led to the black flag. When I respawned, I switched my Primary, from that of my automatic to a Barrett. I went up the hill and onto the outpost (where the turret would normally be at), and proned on the top of the outpost. Moving my cursor to the left end of my screen, I scoped forward, and then estimated an angle, and fired an off-screen shot. The first time I fired, I overshot, but I had a good view of where he was standing at, probably still whining about the Barrett. Then I lowered my aim a little...

BANG!!!

Direct hit. You can imagine how hard everyone laughed whilst the guy was like: "WTF?!!"

Moral of the Story:
If you are going to hate a weapon so much, you'd definitely get even more pissed off sooner or later ;)

Here's a quick diagram I made using polyworks and some picture editting:

(Yes, I know the Barrett doesn't shoot 100% straight, it'd curve over a long distance)

I guess you showed him the power of "Barrett" STM. Good job making the barretards proud :D

Were you able to tea-bag after you killed him?

No, and I'd never do that.

And if you haven't read:

I think a good shot with a Barrett is enough to humiliate him and piss him off anyway =P

I think I could make that shot the first time around. The curve of the barrett is relatively easy to learn when the barrett is nearly parallel to the ground.

Good thing he was busy whining, else he would have noticed and taken cover. ;)

No, it's a random pubber. I won't say his name (besides, I only remember half of it), but his name is definitely NOT "Rai-Dei" =P

You know inf abel? Well, this one dude kept telling me barrett was crap and anyone using it was a free kill

I was at the bottom.. You know the trick where you can prone and aim just right with the barrett at the collider entrance to the white flag? Well, I did that, got a shot off WAYYYYY up there INTO blue base due to curve, and at that moment, he happened to be falling from the blue spawn area just into the path of my bullet for a perfect headshot. He raged, I lolled, we rejoiced, and my team won. I would've demo'd it but I didn't know you could demo then. That's a great trick btw, you can spend an entire game getting kills without ever moving or being in danger. Also insanely long range shots.

That looks like the same guy I had sniped lol. Congrats on that excellent insanely-long-ranged headshot =D

Normally, I don't like to sit at one spot and just keep sniping, especially if Blue team is pretty aggressive.

^ Indeed. It's not point-and-click nowadays, the Barrett has a startup time.
