you could choose to approve or smite people and their approval rating would change and it was displayed under their name

jprg had like -1000 while cool people had higher numbers the only reason it got removed was because butthurts with massive negative karmas wanted it gone so they didn't get reminded about how hated they were when they logged on

Most guys around would try to make more and more good things to get some of these points to
know others care about them or judge others from how many points he got, even if they dont speak
it out it is a thing of the head and would destroy a part of our community which I really enjoy,

I think I would wonder why you do that, because it is not normal to get admiration or positive restitution for each
bullshit you are doing/posting, it is just unnecessary and you have spoken out what adores most ´bout karma:
´getting attention for each shit, for admiration you have to work and not to have some friends hammering on the
karma-button just to give you the feeling you are who´

I've always suggested that if karma is ever to be reinstated, it should be modified that once you give karma to member so-and-so, you must give karma to X number of other people before giving karma to that member again. And, you can only give out karma Y amount of times per day.

Even with these restrictions, there is still plenty of potential for abuse. Any sort of heirarchy or ranking system on message boards can be abused due to the anonymity involved. We have to make the best out of what we have.

The aforementioned limitations are easily modified settings in the vBulletin reputation system, but seeing as we're not running that software, I am ignorant as to the extent of work (or even plausibility) required to modify any add-on or feature of SMF forums.
