Hahah! Farah, can you offer any suggestions for separating the good and the bad, with consideration towards the fact that who fits into which category is an opinion?

Fake Edit: tehsnipah, relax. If anyone takes offense to the word nigga, they're being too uptight and old-fashioned. He's not being racist. He would be if he was a white guy telling a black guy that he's a nigger and using the word offensively. None of that is true in this case. He's not discriminating in any sense.

well i'll give you an example of how this actually happened at the forum i went to:
basically it's a gamemaking forum, but their game release/advertising section had too many circlejerking ***gots promoting s**tty games while quality was usually ignored. so they seperate this game & demo section into two sections; game and demo advertising and indie game developement. the former conforming usually to circle jerking s**t whereas the latter promoting lengthy demos or full games, despite quality but still promoting contructive threads and criticism. it worked more or less - doesn't matter whether the good and bad is subjective, because those people know their places, their conduct would get them warned at the forum focused on quality(if the rules are enforced correctly of course).

so yeah, i propose a serious discussion board, promoting insightful threads and posts with thought put into them, and the lounge for people who want to post threads with a little less thought etc. you know what i mean.
also quantity != quality, smegma's one line posts in the evolution vs creation threads are proof that refutations do not have to be absolute walls of text unless the post is ignorant and dumb.

It won't be easy separating those "Good" and "Bad". I know it's for the greater good, but I think it's better to observe more and then make a decision.

I'll have to get back to the rest of your post with details, but I will say that the idea is not a bad one and the implementation of it into these forums has been discussed in the past.

A forum for serious discussions is a nice idea. With the lounge, the borders are not too strict when it comes to flaming, spamming, etc., but that could be different in a subforum.

There's too many idiots around that just try to spoil every last reasonable discussion that might come up.

Hmmm, I think Farah is on to something good here.
Something similar happened to a forum I used to go, just, it was more like dividing noob and pro. Worked wonders!
An idea perhaps is a sub-forum dedicated for serious discussion with no fooling around and stricker moderating, like, moderators could delete useless post that does no contribute in anyway into the topic being discussed.

I know for one, that I wouldn't post a lot there because I have problem constructing my opinions and explaining myself clearly. But I know many, will be delighted to engage into a discussion with people that seem as engaged and smart as them on a same and rather high standard.

I say new sub-forum for more serious discussion.

What's the problem with debate forums? Hell, getting a good debate on here is a sign of good forum life and (potential) intelligence. I'm almost spending more time on Nationstates General than on here. And what's with the 'child area' name? Sounds like a place for spam rather than debate.

Well, it wouldn't be a child area, basically just what the lounge is right now, except minus all that serious discussion that gets crumbled with non revelent post. It would nicely promote serious and civilized (this is a suggestive term) discussion and cut out the non revelent crap.
