I prefer Opera because I'm used to gestures and it's built in features.

See I got Opera back when Firefox had no default tabs, and being the lazy person I am downloaded Opera instead of Firefox. Opera had some web compatibility issues way back then, but now it's fine.

They're browsers. They display web pages. Get over it.

Only real reason I prefer Firefox is because of the addons, amongst them Web Developer/Firebug which are crucial for me.

Xxypher, why do you care so much?

As some of you know, the quality of a browser is very important.
So I say "let them be secure, and enjoyable"
Some of you may say, "Geo, what about options X, Y, and z"?

Kind of like life, in some sense.
If it works for you, just roll with it; just make sure the browser is secure.
So what if pages load fractions of a second slower?  Mandled* touched on this.
Semantics for most.  I guess it makes a difference if you get to down to the nitty-gritty.
Ergo, my point is this - they're both good browsers.
Remember, this is not a battle.  Everyone wins when companies learn from each others mistakes.
With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams it is
still a beautiful world.  Strive to be happy.

I thinks crome should be added to the list. Once it comes out of beta, it is going to be one of the top dogs.
it is allready some time out of the beta (even longer than a month)

I use either Firefox or Opera, but I find Opera to be a little better. I mean, if you accidentally navigated away from a IRC webchat channel, you can just cancel the page load and go back, and you're still logged in. Not that I complain about it a lot, I just find it a little inconvenient, but hey, some of us compared the speed of the two browsers in milliseconds...

I admit Opera is a high quality piece of work and that it's just as good as Firefox, but not better. I like a few things more, like when I add a skin or an add on or something I don't need to restart it to use it; but that isn't reason enough to switch since I rarely customize programs when I can change my OS' GTK theme which makes everything blend in.

As for speed, I don't notice much of a different between them.

Yep.

I hate FireFox everything loads way to slow when i have other apps open (for me). I like Oprah better I'm old school, I use Netscape Navigator 2.0 :-X
You're kidding me, right? Netscape is currently a skin of Firefox 2.0...the site even says it's outdated as crap. Don't use it instead of Firefox, especially since its codebase is Firefox's ancestor. (read the wiki pages on Firefox, Mozilla, AOL, Netscape, and TimeWarner to see what I mean)

I hate the idea of combining a web browser with an IRC client even when it comes natively installed, like with Opera, or even if adding one takes no skill/time (like Chatzilla & Firefox). I hate how Opera makes it a separate tab and how Firefox does it. I'll stick with a combination of irssi and xchat, which I'm completely content with.

Seriously. Screw IE Vs. Firefox, it's obvious firefox is superior. But what about Opera? Also try it atleast once before you vote. IMO, Opera is alot faster and superior to firefox.
It's not a lot faster at loading/rendering pages. Who cares how long it takes to open the browser if it's a program you never close on a computer you always leave on? (even if it does load a few microseconds faster, which I've noticed a few times but don't care at all)

Edit: I'm not saying I don't like Opera, I just prefer Firefox because I'm really used to it. I respect Opera for being compatible with a huge range of operating systems and platforms, especially their new versions. It amazes me they still support OS/2, IRIX, and a few others.

I prefer opera. I don't have to install any ad plugins or anything like that as it's already in opera by default.

You can get mouse gestures as an addon for Firefox, totally customizable. I use it all the time.
Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you?
Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back?
I'd gladly do it because
I don't want to fade away.

yeah, I use All-in-One gestures for Firefox.  I have been using it for a long time, before I even knew Opera had mouse gestures.

They came out with a new one, called FireGestures. It's inferior IMO, but cba to find the old one.

I'm comfortable with FireFox, so I gotta vote for it. I tried Opera when I was younger, but I didn't like it at all.
