Removing a virus in safe mode?
« on: January 30, 2009, 09:32:32 pm »
So I installed some Microshit Vista critical update for my laptop, and ever since that happened I cant seem to use it for more than a minute without getting BSoD.   I have been aware that I might have a virus breakout for a few days, since I tried to acquire some software the easy way (Norton told me it had eradicated a threat though, so I guess it was a virus since it didn't show up on the Desktop where I wanted it)

So now i'm forced to use Safe Mode (no internet access) or I get a BSoD.  I can't system restore because it says my Disk has a corruption or some crap and says I need to scan for errors, <click here to scan for errors> and it just comes up with the same thing again..  So microsoft fails hard for not letting me do a system restore xD.  Either way, I need to get back to January 18 at least and the last restore point was Jan 20 ;<

Anyway, i'm out of ideas.  is there any way I could still find it in safe mode?  or try a different program?

Vista gets worse with every update. I'm not kidding. I wish I had the Vanilla version before SP1 came out. It was so much faster then this crap.
You could try backing up your stuff in Safemode and reformatting, though that is a hassle with how long it takes to get things back in order.

Well is it actually possible to make your own backup disc with vista?  because I didn't get an OS Disc when I bought the computer

This is one of the most bullshit decisions Microsoft has ever made. All operating systems should be packaged with reinstall discs.
Do you want to see me crawl across the floor to you?
Do you want to hear me beg you to take me back?
I'd gladly do it because
I don't want to fade away.

There might be a recovery partition on your hard drive. Did your computer come with any manuals? Check them for info on how to reformat and reinstall vista should something go wrong.

Should the recovery partion look like this?

because I don't have one.

Is there some way i could make a new partion and copy the OS into there, and boot it without the Virus/bluescreen error?

Because I have a second HDD (50GB) and I haven't touched it yet.

No, it doesn't work like that. A recovery partition is usually a customized version of the Vista DVD that you can just boot to and use to reinstall the system and reformat your normal (C:) partition.
