I've been obsessing over Rome: Total War lately. That game is great. I've made it a bit harder for myself by basically playing no diplomacy. I played as the Julii and I waited way too damn long to start hitting the Gauls. At this point, I'm about 60-70 years into the game and I've almost taken out the Gauls, they've only got 2 cities left.
Unfortunately, I am now getting fucked by the Spaniards who apparently don't like my expansion towards them. So now I've had to build up 3 2400+ unit armies to take on these damn Spanish and the upkeep is raping my treasury. Also, one of my cities rebelled because I had to pull out almost the entire garrison to save one of my other cities.
I think this is the most time I have ever spent on one game. 30 hours of play in one week.
My greatest moment was the epic defense of one of my cities with a vastly inferior force against the spanish assault. I had 1400 units and the Spanish assaulting my city had over 3500. I basically gave them the walls of my city and retreated to the center. Getting assaulted from 3 sides and I managed to kill about 75 percent of their forces while losing only 50 percent of mine.
I know this is completely unrelated to the topic at hand, but I felt like sharing.
