What automatic weapon should i use?
« on: February 04, 2009, 11:00:11 am »
Hey!

Im about to learn an auto weapon. I do understand the fact that some weapons are harder to learn so i am asking people who HAVE been playing with all automatic weapons and really know things. So the question is, which weapon is best when you're the most skilled. I also know that each weapon is good for each map but maybe there still is a diffrence.

Thanks and sorry for bad english :)

Your English actually isn't that bad. There are people whose native tongue is English and don't type as well as you did. Props to you.

As a person who uses virtually every weapon equally (except minigun and M79), I will have to say that the AK-74 is a good all-around weapon to begin with, as is the Steyr AUG. They both have good range, damage per second, and a relatively short reload time. The Steyr fires faster while the AK is stronger.

The MP5 is essentially a shorter range AUG with a faster firing rate and quicker reload time. It is not suited for large, open spaces and shines on maps like Nuubia, Lanubya, Tropiccave, and the Arena maps. The spread of the bullets is a bit of a letdown, but when you're within the range of a Spas user, it doesn't matter.

The Minimi is a great weapon once it is mastered. It represents the extreme values out of the autos; ie. it has the largest magazine and most damage output per second, but it also has the longest reload time and the highest movementacc (at 4!). It is basically a beast that needs to be tamed. You should quickly stop jetting when you are firing at someone, especially if they are below you, to obtain the most accuracy when you are firing it. That round capacity of 50 means when an MP5 user is trying to spray you in the valley of Shau, you can fill him with lead before he can get close to you.

Just be careful with those bullets, because that long reload time can make you completely defenseless if another player catches you off guard. The key to reloading is to find a deserted spot or to do it while some of the other players are distracted with each other. If someone gets smart and finds out you are reloading, pull out your socom or your knife (I'm primarily a knife user) and teach him a lesson.

Have fun.

AUG, its easy and it works. Why do you think 90% of the top players/clans use them?

Aug is good.  It's deadly accurate for the first few shots but then binks wildly.  Either burst it, and if you really want to dish out some pain then duck, fire, and watch every bullet hit its mark.  This is a very good beginer's weapon.

The ak isn't very powerful, but is very easy to use.  It is accurate for quite a while and and should really only require one little refresh of the trigure, at a push 2, per kill.  It works well at all ranges apart from very close, but if someone does get close, backpedal and you should be fine.  Also, the magazine rarely runs out in mid combat.  Great for picking off people who are already weakened (look out for the blood), especially if you consider its headshot damage, and it IS accurate enough to headshot even at long range with a stationary or slow-moving target.

The mp-5  is also a brilliant weapon.  Once you perfect your bunny-hopping then it's devastating.  As a tip, I'd say start firing a little bit before you get there, as as you start firing it's more accurate.  That way, even Spas users will fear you.  If you find your self getting taken out every time, it's probably because you're firing too late.  That^^ is pretty much common knowledge between mp5 users, but something else I think is an equally valid tactic is ducking- if you look at how accruate it gets, any stationary or close target is toast, it just shreds them.  The same can be said for going prone in mid air, but that's a LOT harder to time right, and do quickly enough.

The minimi was already summed up pretty well, and I haven't really mastered it, so theres no point me pretending to be a minimi pro and giving you crap advice...  I do know I frequently get pwnt by minimi users though.

finally remember the soldat rock paper scissors rule, mostly:  Auto beats one hit kill, one hit kill beats semi, and semi beats auto.

Heh im not that new :P i play for about 2 years now and have only mastered barrett and ruger. I just cant make a desidion what auto should i master and what auto is best when its mastered. As i can see, MP5 is probably best idea because ruger and barrett work well on opened maps - i get owned on close ones. But in that case i cant hunt snipers well - so funny :P. What auto you think is best for both kind of maps?

Thanks for answers!

M-16. Hands down. That's a good beginner 'cause you can place it in the Steyr AUG slot (they're very similar).

What varient doesn't matter, but I'd say A2.

If your a ruger player then I'd go for the AK, it's the least change- an accurate long range weapon, but still absolutely owns on maps like CTF_ash

You mean both open and closed maps? I'd say probably the AUG then. It's definitely an all rounder, and it can be used well against an enemy in almost any scenario. It's always been my favorite along with the mp5, though lately I have been taking a shine towards the minimi. Once you master that one, it's brutal. Of course, the minimi is hardly suited for small enclosed maps, 'cause once you start reloading you're likely to run into someone faster, rather than if you're playing a huge map where it takes time for the enemy to reach you after they respawn.

But if you're gonna learn only one auto(at least to start with), you should definitely go for the AUG.
I fucking miss all you cunts!

My Simple Weapons Guide

Let your style and the map you play on decide the weapon for you. You need not stick with just one weapon, try out all of them and find out which one you like, or you could switch between all of them.

If you like to rush a lot and something very fast and don't mind short range, get the HK MP5.
If you want speed and accuracy, get the Steyr Aug.
If you want versatility and accuracy, get the AK-74.
If you want a very extreme auto, get the FN Minimi.

For beginners, I don't recommend the Minimi since it's the hardest to use, since it has the longest reload and pretty bad accuracy. However, it has a superior balance of firing rate and firepower and good range plus the highest number of bullets (exceeding the AK), which makes it a weapon of great extremes.

When using the Aug, fire it bursts because it has very bad bink. Please take note that the bullets shoot at a slightly upward angle after the first shot of a burst of automatic fire and self-bink takes place after the 4th bullet is shot. The Aug is a simple weapon to use with excellent range and accuracy and good speed provided you can control it well.

When using the AK, either you tap it (shoot one shot at a time by clicking the mouse rapidly instead of holding down) OR you fire in a very short burst of 2 shots. This way, you can achieve greater accuracy. The AK is an all-rounder, though it deals poor DOT (Damage Over Time) compared to the other autos, it has rather strong damage per shot and has a high ammo capacity (40) before having to reload at a decent rate.

Well, looks like I'm a little late since you chose the Aug already when I was about to post this, but I hope this advice helps.

Shit im all confused again. I am good with ruger and barrett but i want something more, new and im getting owned on some maps like rok - minimi masters owns me and factory - MP5. I need a weapon that would work on very opened and very closed maps - autos are best in my option. I would take minimi but it wont work well on closed maps, thans why steyr. But minimi absolutley ownz more when mastered. Theres another option that i learn minimi for long distances but i still need a weapon for those closed maps. What do you prefer for that? MP or spas? Or even anything else?

If you're used to play with ruger/barret I'd go for spas if i were you. I've used ruger alot myself, and when im trying to learn some  auto owning, i just get bored =/
Im using mostly spas when i play now, and it works like hell ;)

If you want something that works for all areas still steyr.
Minimi users are pwning you NOT because of the minimi... but because of the aim.
Learn Steyr, many professional players use it.  Nice gun.

Minimi 4 Life! It was my first and only weapon on my dial-up connection in 1.3, and back then, you had to aim in front of the person if you were lagging. Man how times have changed... The taptap method served me well back then. These days, the MovementAcc screws with your aim, so you have to be a good mover as well to compensate.

To me, the Steyr AUG is like a long range version of the HK MP5, except it's accuracy is affected by a bug. It's stronger than the HK, but I dislike it's feel. I usually take up the HK over the Steyr.

I'd suggest you go with the AK-74 if you're looking for something inbetween. If you master that weapon, you have somewhere to start with both the Steyr and the Minimi. :D

Of course, that's only if you want to take up an auto...

First of all, did you read the link (My Simple Weapons Guide) I gave in my previous post/in my signature?

Shit im all confused again. I am good with ruger and barrett but i want something more, new and im getting owned on some maps like rok - minimi masters owns me and factory - MP5. I need a weapon that would work on very opened and very closed maps - autos are best in my option.
See, the map terrain would greatly affect your choice of weaponry. You have to pick a gun according to the situation. You can't pick a gun that can excel in ALL situations, every gun has its own strengths and weaknesses.

Autos deal damage over time and have few weaknesses. Semis are extremely powerful because they have extremely great damage in one shot but the hardest weapons to master and tend to be less flexible compared to autos. 1-hitters stands a chance against anything, but you must be accurate and you can generally only kill one person at a time.

I would take minimi but it wont work well on closed maps, thans why steyr. But minimi absolutley ownz more when mastered.
About the Minimi "absolutely ownz more when mastered", that's not 100% true. As said in my simple weapons guide, the Minimi is what I call a "Tank" - It can keep shooting and would own hard if you can aim and still have enough ammo. However, as soon as you run out of ammo, it's going to be hell for you unless you're really good in avoiding and your enemies aren't exactly as good. This is why although the Minimi is seemingly more powerful, the Aug is generally preferred, because its reload is a lot more reliable while providing (practically) an equal in damage over time.

It's all about your aim and whether you are comfortable with your gun, or not.

What do you prefer for (close-ranged/confined spaces)? MP or spas? Or even anything else?
For close range and confined maps (closed maps), the Spas is easily the most powerful weapon. You said you are good at Ruger right? The Spas works similarly, except that it sacrifices range and bullet speed for increased firepower, firing rate, ammo and no inaccuracy (except the spread). However, if you find it uncomfortable, then use an MP5.

I'd suggest you go with the AK-74 if you're looking for something inbetween. If you master that weapon, you have somewhere to start with both the Steyr and the Minimi. :D
Good point/suggestion about the AK.

Personally, I myself often switch my weapons according to the situation. Generally, I'd use the AK-74 over all the other guns because it has supreme accuracy and firepower and can last very long before needing to reload. Comparing at the rate it drains ammo to its reload speed, its reload is very fast, but in a heated situation, it's too slow.

Confined areas, I'd generally use a MP5 since I am not comfortable with the Spas.
Open ground, if I'm not going to use an AK, I'd pick perhaps either the Aug or the Minimi, or occasionally the Ruger or Barrett.

For versatility, I'd go for AK and Aug. If I encounter enemies who I find difficult to defeat with my current weapon, I'd just switch accordingly. For example, if I find this Minimi-user getting on my nerves in an open place, I'd find a weapon that can kill him faster than he can kill me, and make sure that I have the upper hand in range. In this situation, I'd switch to a Ruger or a Barrett, or I may even fight fire with fire by using a Minimi myself. Or I would switch to a LAW and take him out.

A bit offtopic maybe, but since the spas and enclosed spaces came up, it seems appropriate to add that weapon choice is also dependant on gametype. The spas is one of the best get-away-from-the-enemy-base-with-da-flag weapons, because shooting back boosts you considerably, and slows chasers down considerably (or stops them completely if aimed perfectly, but the spread works for your advantage in this case). Being the chaser is very frustrating.

Weapon choice is closely linked with with your movement and general playing style also. The point is I personally wouldn't choose a weapon based only on other players (experienced as they may be) suggestions, since there are also a "feel" to every gun and a hundred more aspects that no one can summarize.

I used to prefer steyr, but now I very much prefer the ak-74 and I think it's very underated- it's easy to use, good at all ranges and has a large magazine
