I decided to try out the Minigun at ash. I hope all of you know the flag base and the balcony place. So I tested how many shots it takes to kill a guy.... And the result?* More than 40 bullets.* I was actually surprised about it..... Is it my crappy computer that's making the Minigun horrible? Or is it just the damned weapon?

nope, some ppl are lucky though, and got a minigun that can reg. but otherwise it's very useless, it's odd that it even kills at only 40 bullets.

0 - XM214 Minigun  [Minigun]:
Damage / DPS: 50 [14500] (12 shots to kill, BS = 290) / 217500, 15 {Any Range provided all bullets reg}

Assuming the weapon always hits the torso and at a reasonable range, the Minigun would kill in 12 bullets. Aug and MP5 usually takes 9 bullets, AK takes 7-8 bullets, Minimi takes 8-9 bullets.

Now consider this: the Minigun itself is actually pretty inaccurate - having a tendency to fire up and down like the MP5, and its self-bink isn't as easy to control over a long period of time.

Then consider this as well: the faster your gun's firing rate, the more ammo you are bound to waste unnecessarily on a dead body, because it takes some reaction time for you to realize your opponent's dead. It is also because it takes time for such information to be sent to you over the internet.

Finally, consider the netcode which has caused many players to whine etc. The reg for the minigun in particular is very bad for some reason. When someone's using the minigun against me, I may not see the bullets or get pushed back, but I kept receiving damage silently over a period of time, even if I were slightly away from the minigun spray. I'd only die after that guy has spent like easily 40-60 ammo. On the other hand, if I were the one with the minigun, I find my shots barely dealing damage unless I can concentrate my fire on that person and slightly towards where he is going. Again, 40-60 bullets.

The thing with minigun is you have to shoot it incredibly inaccuately because of the weapon startup, you can't "tap" the trigger like MP5 and Steyr. Making it impossible to kill anyone that isn't 2 inches away, in that case they just melee the weapon out of your hand. Along with the other things mentioned.

What we need here is a pro minigunner, someone who will set us straight and tell us how to use such a complex weapon. Someone who gets triple kills single handedly and does other amazing feats of skill.

It's impossible to use minigun in effective way, because it's too inaccurate and it's seems to be bugged in multiplayer - many bullets don't register.

Accuracy issues can be solved by reducing self-bink or removing it altogether. You'd still see the bullets fly up and down a little bit like the MP5, but the general spray would be a lot more accurate. The minigun is the only gun that is truly affected by self-bink, that's good, but the problem is, the minigun also cannot work properly with inaccuracy. So was putting self-bink into the minigun a good idea after all?

Unfortunately, as for netcode, it's practically impossible to solve that problem without having to go through lots of work, and even so, the problem can't be solved 100%, only reduced.

I wonder if the minigun should get a reload or ammo boost of some sort.

There is a trick to it. But the damage output it's still somewhat random.

skill skill skill and a lot of patience! do you have enough nerves to start minigun over and over during the battle? i mean not after respawn lol. -hide-shoot-hide-shoot-hide-kill-reload-shoot- is it possible? SURE! a lot of agility needed to evade full MP5 clip or a spas shots, agree, but it grants you new gamestyle LOL

And if I recall, that reason being the fact that minigun bullets are created randomly server-side. Don't ask me for the particular details, and this is a wild guess, but I'd imagine the client simply says "hello I'mma chargin' mah gun" and then the bullets are created with random directions in the server/client respectively. Thus why it also seems so bloody random.

Well I guess Ive been prover wrong, but the minigun can be buffed a bit.

It only partially has to do with the server creating bullets randomly. The main reason is that the angle or whatever the minigun fires at isn't the same on client and server. This allows you to shoot a standing target with hundreds of bullets, and while they all may appear to be hitting on your screen, the server could think that you are aiming elsewhere.

Actually... the minigun has a movementacc value of 1, which is = no movementacc, like DEs and MP5. However, like the MP5, the bullet does shoot up and down a little even without the effect of self-bink.

This shows that the minigun is more of a long-ranged weapon and is built for a certain level of spraying - it doesn't work in a very heated situation and also can't work in a very enclosed/small environment. The main reason is because of its high startup time.
