Why can't wives have equally limited authority over husbands then?

Proof that this guy's making up shit:
Quote

This photo was taken in 2002.
Today, she lives in the house
with their baby and her new
boyfriend, she just kicked him out
and got the house through
divorce court (of course) while
he can only afford to live in a
crappy apartment because he
now has to pay 700.00 a month
in child support- which almost
covers the entire mortgage payment-
what a coincidence! He’s a human
ATM machine. Isn’t that really neat?

Husbands have (limited, obviously) authority over their wives.
OH do they now?
Why?

Girls can have multiple orgasms. I would gladly give up some rights for that :)
Just kidding..

But seriously, women and men should have equal rights. But our media sucks also. Theirs some jobs guys are better at(physical or not needing as much emotion) and chicks have non-physical tasks they are wonderful at(cleaning, shopping) and a lot of counselors/therapists because they connect more emotionally. Obviously all of this doesn't hold true to every instance and their are many women/men who can do the other sex's work just fine.

Because the existence of conflict in marriage demands that one of the partners have authority. The nature of man suits the husband for this leadership role.

I disagree with overarching generalities like that. Things should be taken on an individual case basis.

Generally a man has veto power when the lady is spending the money he earned. Most people think that is fair enough.

Well, you need objective rules to govern decisions in individual cases. Otherwise it just depends what side of the bed the two got up on.

What? That either makes no sense or I just don't see any logic in it. What kinds of conflict require this "authority" you speak of? And what part of man's "nature" makes him more fit to be the authority?

Thats quite sexist of you. Nice!

The opposite exists, however, It is not because men are born with authority, it's just the role of husband is more visibly important than the wives.

Men also has many evolutionary advantages over women, (or call it God made advantages, you know, whateva sounds good to ya)

Totally throwing a distraction (brick) in the conversation here:

So I read the article (obviously), dwelt upon it for a little while whilst considering some of the points stated, and realized (although I already understood) that this is very situational for each individual.  Everyone is in a different situation in life, and although all females can be bunched into one or two categories very easily, it turns out that these one of two categories only apply to a small percentage of people, rather than the whole.

Edit:

Er, sorry 'bout the confusing poll.  Didn't even intend to make it a poll originally.. Guess I just felt inspired.

Man, what little truth their is in this article is blown out of porportion so much. I agree only on the fact that feminism is, for the most part, bulls**t. However, equal rights I am all for. I see no reason that men are better than women. For every suck-ish quality you list for a female, there is an equally crappy one for a male. This is also the same with positive qualities. I also fail to see how females are being repressed in this society.
That and most of you people are acting like 11 year olds.

There's my two-cents-worth. Don't shoot.

It’s like showing you this and then you say, “that’s disgusting.”
Then I respond with, “you just hate toilets.”

I lol'd at that part.

Women are different, but equal. Too bad they cant understand that in some countries where the worst thing that can happen to you is to be born female.

I also love women, and am a proponent for equal rights, etc.  I just hate how often I see examples that would fuel this guys fire on a weekly basis.  :-\

Sorry for not getting back to you guys about the sexism thing. I just can't find the time. It will probably come up again, though.

This is a huge chronic problem of mine: if I stop arguing something online for 24 hours straight, I'll never come back. I hate it, it happens a lot. I'll be all, "i'll get back to this soon" and then I don't. :/

That is totally stereotypical and sexist. But I must agree, many of that stuff accords to some women; but only to a very small percentage.
And feminism at its worse is just bad.. for example I knew a guy who said he gets confused with women 'cause when he opens the door for them some of them just say "I can open it myself." rudely. If a guy opens a door for me I just say thank you nicely, for it is a nice gesture. Most of the women don't want to be treated exactly like men, but being recognized and not put down is important. Equal rights belong to both sexes.

As to what comes to Christianity and some people understanding that in the bible females are considered to be on a lower lever than men.. In my religion classes teachers always stress the fact that the bible has been written down by humans: therefore the values of the time the writings were actually written down can be seen.
