New default maps discuss

Tell your opinions about new default maps here.

Personally I'm satisfied with maps, though some of them I would have left out, some other maps I've added. I know some of the maps are very different and the maps don't suit public so good as they suit for cws. I can tell you about each ctf map that where it's based on that why it got picked.

The New CTF maps are basically of 4 different categories:
Flag throwing/shooting: Blade and IceBeam.
Reversed: Hormone.
Classic: MFM2,Raspberry,Rotten.
Separated Spawn/flags: Guardian,X.

And about flag throwing not suiting public, I play some on #soldat.mapping public which used to hold all those maps above and whenever icebeam came up at first they always treat it like a normal ctf map but as soon as 1 person throw the flag(usually me) they are quite fast on catching up with the gameplay so I wouldn't be so much worried that ppl don't get how to play it.

Yeah I agree I wasn't that satisfied with X and Blade either. Cmon, theres so many other maps to choose from!

Blade: We got four candidates for default from flag throw, two of those maps were taken cos the flag throw maps seemed extremely popular. The two icebeam and blade were picked cos they were considered the most fun and unique (they aren't too near each other)

X: Not really my favourite. Map is a bit like Voland, at better team it rocks and at worse team it sucks, sometimes love it, sometimes hate it. The map is having strong support in betatesters team, and it was MM's wish that X go for default.

IceBeam and Blade might be fun for the serious gather/clanwar scene, but for publics they are absolutely dreadful.

Hormone and X are the most fun, in my opinion. I really like those additions.

Rotten and Rasberry are ok, not totally agreeing with you all that they should have been added to default, but whatever.

I'm not sure about that how they break through at public, but in my view cws are more important. Im not saying that cws>public, sure public is more important for Soldat.

The thing is that public servers can use or delete the maps that they don't want to play, and public servers can much easier take custom maps in rotation, cos of download system. At cws you can't limit the maps you are allowed to play, and you can't really use custom maps either, it's just the maps that are official.

That's why cw perspective is more important when deciding maps.

About CTF maps

ctf_Blade: too much confusion, IceBeam should cover throwing
ctf_Hormone: whee inverted, kinda small for public servers
ctf_IceBeam: nice map, but could delete that giant BG scenery... it'll be hard to use in other conditions, and it's not that important
ctf_MFM2: this is what default maps are, in my opinion... default, and it's well constructed
ctf_Raspberry: well constructed and themed, I strongly agree with this map going for default
ctf_Rotten: can't say much about it, but seems nice
ctf_X: kinda small for public servers, but will be the intense map, something different
ctf_Guardian: it's not in the patch I downloaded (betaD), but it remembers me too much ctf_Ash with upper spawns... I wouldn't add it, leave Ash do it's job

About HTF maps:

htf_Niall: I like this map very much, different
htf_Star: Seems to be eazy for the flagger to scape... yet different
htf_Vortex: unstructured, radial simetry... seems to be confusing

ps.: I'm not a htf player, and I didn't play any of this maps with several peopple...

About INF maps:

inf_Biologic: nice jungle themed map
inf_Rise: I played this map loooong time ago... It was incredible fun, that's why I remembered it. The flag place has only one entrance, but the defending tem spawns kinda far from it.
inf_Rescue: remembers-me inf_Messner (but harder), and those bunkers are realy ugly (nerver played this one with several peopple)

About the others:
Aero: awesome, default and different
CrackedBoot: nice and all, but wasan't this map for a tutorial? maybe you could ask chakapoko maker to make it better.
Unlim: remembers me arena2, nice map, defaultlish and well thought. don't have any team spawn
