Spying in Survival
« on: March 08, 2009, 10:52:12 am »
There were threads like this before, but this is my last and final attempt on this case in this board. And i hope it will be considered seriously this time.

What it's about?

In Survival mode players don't spawn until the round is over (all players of one team killed/score with flag). They remain dead until they spawn in the next round, so they just watch the other players who still live and play the game. Usually dead people can't talk, but here they can and they do. They keep giving advices to the players that still play, such as enemy position, hp state, weapon etc. It spoils the game a lot, ruins the entire atmoshere of Survival gaming where you or your enemy is playing sneaky, which makes you play by ear and try to guess where the enemy can be. "Spying" is forbidden almost on all servers, and in cw rules. This could be handled if spying was possible only in soldat chat, but it mostly happens trough voice communicators such us Teamspeak, Ventrilo or Skype.

What to do?

The solution is very simple. There could be a possibility in server's config to make dead players follow only their teammates (freecam and following enemy's not possible) and see only what the teammate sees (you dont see people behind your back in Realistic). This solves the problem almost entirely, and like Enesce himself said, not a big problem in coding this.

So even if you're not a survival mode player, please support this petition with a F12 vote, we need it :/

thanks in advance, this needs to work this time

 :)

Better solution is you can only spec teammates and you can only see what they see.

F12.
It would be fair to say about cons of this option.
There will be no use of spectator at all in CW's. It's nice to watch while others play. But even with this cons it's worth to implement this and stop that spying fagism.

Spectators will still be able to freecam, and if a clan doesnt like enemy's clan spectators (because they might be spying), they can just tell them to leave.

Absolutely F12, i'm sick of spying, and anyway, even when you follow your team mates you shouldn't be allowed to see enemyes thru walls...ofc no1 will do anything about that, 100% guarantee, they rather spend their time in useless things for the new version.

but you still can turn around them, and look behind, while they look forward, so it should be tied to the cursor

you can easly spot an spy, cause over his head will appear the text, except he uses *ehem, not giving my tactics away*

and you can see trough walls, while the alive one cant (if its realistic)
Last year, I dreamt I was pissing at a restroom, but I missed the urinal and my penis exploded.

What are you saying, that you'd be able to see people behind them? I think you need to read more clearly.

You can only see what they see meaning you can't see people behind them BECAUSE THEY CANNOT SEE THEM.

F12'd. Spying in survival isn't right. It's annoying to play when whole team shouts where the enemy is.

F12'ed. I have played some RS games and it's really annoying when they spy. One more thing, screen could go black after getting killed. ;p Just loose thought. ;p

agreed, obviously this would remove spying on CW's which would make this suggestion even better.

I don't like this idea at all. I could see where you are coming from, but I don't see it worth it because I tend to follow players to 'study' what they do on a map and counteract them the next round.

Spying has never been a big deal from what I have seen. At least in the American R/S sector. That includes Ventrilo. I enjoy watching both teams and seeing their strategies, if you are worried about spying id say make it so there is no team chat after you are dead. But for ventrilo, teamspeak etc. there will always be people abusing third party programs, they will find a way to spy just like people find a way to cheat through "hacking".

there is no possibility to spy if you see only what your playing teammate sees. And if you trust your opponent, and you know it wont spy, you can just play without this option.
