Noob Questions

So I just started on my first Solday map and have some questions   :o ???

First off, what is the best way to use scenery, any limits how big each picture can be? If I want to use alot of scenery and build in PW to match scenery pictures, is there any recommended way to go about this?

I have a lot of seamless textures I have made for other games (will post a rar soon) what size limit is there for them in Soldat? After adding a texture of 620x620 it looks really pixly even thou original texture is 2500x2500 why? I ran fix texture on it.

Gimp is it just a graphics program such as photoshop or paintshop or is there anything really speciall that makes it usefull for PW?

Are the only accepted image formats bmp and PNG? No gif so one can have animations?

Sure, loads of people here are more than willing to answer whatever you might ask.

I'm not so sure what the dimension limit on scenery is, but considering this is such a small game anything over 1000x1000 might be insanely overkill. Don't forget, you can stretch them in PW.

Again, I'm not so sure. But as I mentioned above, a texture 2500x2500 might be overkill as hell. If you resize the really large texture down in some image editor (be it PS, Gimp, etc) the quality probably shouldn't be too bad.

Some consider it easier to use than PS and in many ways. It has more features (for example supporting a larger variety of image formats) but if you read Vtt's Tutorial on map making with Gimp, he shows how it can be used to easily make background sceneries.

No. You can use GIF in the next version of Soldat (there are currently betas out) and that will support animated GIF's in game.

Is there any way to only move Polygons and not scenery(or lock scenery), this becomes frustrating when making landscape on the basis of the forms of scenery  :-\

yes, in display, make the scenerys invisible, then you select and move the landscape, then you make them visible again.
or you move it all, then you click in properties, in the upper right arrow, scenery properties, and scale them back, dunno

Ok well that makes building in the form of a scenery pic really hard :) So there is no way to lock them? Or only be able to move Polygons?
