Purpose of the Weapons [Normal]

I made this thread because the goals of the weapon balance as well as the standards of each weapon is not very clear, which can cause a lot of confusion as to how the guns should be balanced.

I would like to request a mod to sticky this and a beta tester to modify this post to update the goals, standards and purposes as they wish. What I have here are just the basics and a rough idea on what the weapons are.

Goals of the Balance:
  • Equal usage of every weapon
  • Every weapon is unique from one another

Weapon Standards:
  • DEs: Close-mid range offensive Semi, highly accurate anti-autos. Has low bullet speed, making it poor for long range and difficult to master/use.
  • MP5: Best short-range auto for 1v1, worst range of all autos. (Poop)
  • AK: Reliable multi-purpose weapon. Can handle any situation reasonably well. (Skoskav/8th)
  • Aug: Best long-range auto for 1v1, unable to last long in fights. (Poop)
  • Spas: Ultimate close-quarters weapon, but terrible at range.
  • Ruger: Long-ranged defensive semi with good firepower, but low ammo and poor for rushing.
  • M79: Counter-rush offensive explosive 1-hitter, but has short range and long reload.
  • Barrett: Slow-paced weapon which is easily binked. Extreme range and 1-hit kill are its only advantages.
  • Minimi: An auto of tremendous firepower. It has poor portability and maneuverability (long reload, high movementacc).
  • XM214:
  • Socom: A 2nd gun, good for backup and finishing weak opponents.
  • Knife: Quick killing weapon against single opponents.
  • Saw: A deadly weapon, but specialized at melee range only.
  • LAW: A mini-Barrett.
  • Grenades:

General Weapon "Guidelines":
Code: [Select]
Autos:
- Can be fired automatically at high rates
- Can be sprayed as a result, tolerant of missing
- Has impressive Damage Over Time (DOT)
- Has terrible Damage Per Shot (DPS)
- Relies on very concentrated fire to deal damage
- Compared to other weapons, they are less accurate
- They cannot perform pot-shots
- Much easier to use

Semis:
- Decent/slow firing rate
- Cannot be sprayed ; Missing is a problem
- Has good DOT, provided the user is 100% accurate
- Has impressive DPS
- Consistent accuracy required ; deals damage by single shots
- They are deadly accurate
- Can be used to perform pot-shots
- Extremely skill-based

1-hits:
- Extremely slow firing rate
- Cannot be sprayed ; Missing = Death
- Has terrible DOT ; single-opponents only
- The best DPS ; "ONE SHOT ONE KILL"
- Be accurate for the first shot
- They are accurate, but efficiency may be limited due to other factors
- Can be used to perform pot-shots
- First to shoot, first to hit, first to win "Blitzkrieg"


Short Range:
- Offensive
- Bullets are slow ; take longer to reach
- Bullets fly in a curved manner
- Movement does not hinder Accuracy
- Does not suffer bink

Long Range:
- Defensive
- Bullets are fast ; reaches enemies quickly
- Bullets fly relatively straight
- Accuracy is inversely proportionate to Movement
- Bink may be a problem

Auto > 1-hit > Semi > Auto

Grenades are only for short range. so stop your whining about the grenades.

Too many weapons for too simple game. There is no practical way to give every weapon it's own position in the game.

    I might have an attempt at the whole list later when I get home, but for now I'll be the 'one-issue-party'.

    Minimi

  • Minimi: An auto of tremendous firepower, but vulnerable during reload

I'd also say that it pays for its tremendous firepower by being un-weildy; making it important to be higher then your opponent before engaging combat, as you can't jet while firring at the same time- also making a very poor choice for persuing EFCs.

While its long reload is certainly a factor, I think its poor maneuverability should be its main disadvantage; as having a long reload only restricts its strength, rather than actually making it weaker.[/list]

Spas12 is obviously a rush semi, but it doesnt seem very good at its job...

    * DEs: Close-mid ranged semi-auto. No bink coupled with large ammo gives reign for dominance over autos. Arc and level of accuracy makes this weapon easily countered with long ranged firing.
    * MP5: Close-ranged plow auto. Only viable against almost every other gun with close distance, speed, and grenades.
    * AK: Versatile auto, insignificant bink, slow firing and HIGH damage potential auto excelling at mid-long ranges. Exceptional against other autos, semi-autos, but evens out against ruger/barret.
    * Aug: Most versatile auto. Significant bink that dissuades usage from great distances, but generally excels at all distances regardless. Extreme counter against ruger/barret.
    * Spas: Number one close-ranged gun next to M79. No reload, coupled with extremely high damage at close range gives the spas utter superiority in any close ranged/tight, corner filled maps. Decimated at ranges, and almost nullified by grenades (whether or not this is intended...)
    * Ruger: Long-ranged semi with excellent firepower, but low ammo and poor for rushing. Better used coupled with defensive maneuvering and coverage. Dominates all other semi-autos, but is countered by barret and autos in open air.
    * M79: Counter-rush offensive explosive 1-hitter. Short ranged, and easily countered by almost every middle-ranged gun when played correctly and defensively.
    * Barrett: Extremely long ranged one shot kill gun. Ultimate advantage over all other semi-autos. Gets destroyed by autos without a surprise advantage. Very easily binked, coupled with extremely low fire-rate and ammo forces this gun to excel mainly during slow-paced action.
    * Minimi: Extremely high firing rate and damage, insignificant bink but significant movement acc. Versatile range and all included only to be downsized by long reloads.
    * XM214: last resort/give up weapon
    * Socom: Powerful off-hand weapon, but inferior to all other guns.
    * Knife: Versatile one shot kill off-hand, excelling at close-mid ranges.
    * Saw: Specialist melee-ranged weapon.
    * LAW: Powerful one shot kill off-hand, excelling at mid-infinite ranges.
    * Grenades: A nerfed m79.

Thats the way I see it, whatev.

I wouldn't say AK evens out with barrett, it should be > barrett.  So should all autos except probably MP5, as it's got the range disadvantage for that extra few ticks of no bink.  If you're talking about the scope, barrett > everything at scoping range, provided they got uncanny reflexes.

I'd like to maybe see saw in the competitive scene lol :D

XM214 is not really a last resort/giveup.  It's possible to get good at it, probably better with the new weapon balance.  Apparently, there's a trick to it.... aside from that, if you get a lucky flag pickup then you're basically home free.

It's great, it's most probably because you met some guys with longer-ranged guns at a not so favourable terrain/circumstance. The new Spas is actually uber-overpowered at its job, just that few people even use it.

XM - support weapon when many players are around, boosting and dealing minor damage to a wide range of enemies, able to self boost for good flagrunning.
