Splitting the Map Forums Up
« on: March 25, 2009, 11:18:28 pm »
I suggest that the map forums (and possibly others) to be split into their own individual forums. So instead of CTF/INF there would be CTF and INF in their respected forums, or sub-forums.

Yes, we could search the forum for each type of map but it produces poor results.

There are not many Infiltration maps being made, and the ones that are can also be used for Capture the Flag, which is probably why they are combined.
Same for the DM/HTF, the same maps can be used for both game modes in each of the Forums.

everyone adds ctf_ to their topic and everyone in the topic is like "nice ctf" so if you just search ctf you will get the results narrowed down anyway.

Obviously you both did not read my topic. I stated that searching produces poor results. You can't prove me wrong. I've done it.

I've also noted that other forums can be split. It's a simple process and it's easier than having all maps in the one forum (or the couple).

I've got a feeling that splitting them up will reduce the popularity of the mapping forums. I may be wrong, but if this pulls through, we'll see.

I'm with jrgp on this, just seems like an unnecessary risk to me.

Why would splitting up a forum to make it easier to organise them be a risk to popularity? Sorry if I'm a bit slow today but that doesn't make sense.

Of course, I mean not to be rude.

I agree with aussie what risk would that make to the popularity of mapping forums??? I for one don't get it, even though i know jrgp always has an explanation to his opinions. So what is it?  :-X

Because right now pretty much everything you want to see is all in one place and you can get to it easily, without extra clicking / looking, etc.

If they were to be changed into multiple ultra-organized forums, peaple who have gotten used to the way it is now (85% of us) might not want to bother dealing with everything spread out in different places.

I'm sure there are also other reasons. echo_trail, I want to hear the reason behind your opinion.

I see your point. It might be hard to "re-adapt" but if it makes it easier than it should be done. Functionality and organisation takes priority in a forum such as this - am I right?

Don't know aussie, i agree to jrgp, overall comfort of forum users is preferred to the forum's functionality itself.

Well you pretty much said it, Joey. But I've been attending to various other forums as well, on which they've tradet having a few overall subforums for many with specific purposes, and it's just not effective, and it's a pain to look at.

Actually, I did read it.
I stick by what I said, Infiltration maps are made to work with CTF mode, and vise versa. Same goes for Deathmatch and Hold The Flag, the maps are used in both modes.

Obviously you not only ignored what I said, but you also happen to be terrible at using the search function.

Its an easy -yet completely unnecessary- process which will benefit one single person who can't use the search function properly because he's an idiot.

In short, learn to use the search function.
