New Mapper Needing Some Help
« on: March 30, 2009, 04:58:43 am »
Ok, so I've recently downloaded the Official Soldat Map Maker and I'd like to ask a few questions:

(all of these questions are for offline play only)

1. What's the difference between MM's Map Maker and the other one found on the Soldat website? Which one's better?

2. Can I copy and paste stuff and pictures onto the map?

3. Is it possible to make any other Polygons other than triangles?

4. How to I make curved lines?

5. How do I add the spawn locations of CTF and INF flags?

Any other help about making Soldat (mainly DM) maps would be greatly appreciated.
Anyone play KOL?

1. Don't know. Use polyworks, it's better then ANY soldat map maker.

2. They have to be saved files in BMP and PNG format, in soldat 1.5.0 gid support will be added however, the new version of polyworks is going to have to be released.

3. No, but you use lots on triangle polys to make other shapes.

4. Dont know what you're talking about.

5. I haven't really used map maker that much.

Use polyworks, it's WAY better. I'm serious.

If you have some time to read through a semi-short tutorial, Wraithlike spells the basics out very nicely:

4. How to I make curved lines?
Same way you make shapes other than triangles, you must arrange a bunch of triangles together to form curved lines.

As others have mentioned, use PolyWorks. It'll save you loads of time and frustration.
